Hiya

I've been using a Cell C sim in a ZTE MF668 dongle and TPLink MR3420 router with no issues. Decided to get an 8ta sim to test if I have signal and what the connection speed would be.

Simply replacing the Cell C sim with the new 8ta sim never connects on the MR3420. I've changed the APN to manual (*99# and internet) with no luck, even fiddled around with a couple other settings and still no luck.

Using the Cell C Connector app work fine, I can connect (albeit on the MTN network?) and everything works.

Is there something I'm missing? I've spent the last 3 hours searching the forum for a solution but found niks :(

Thanks!

Hi shaanl

If you are using a normal prepaid or contract SIM subscription, it will connect to either 8ta or MTN, depending on which signal is stronger. Please advise if you are still having a problem.

I had the same problem with a Huawei E586 from 3 Network in the UK that I brought back here in January - this is the cool portable MiFi 3G router with battery included that you can carry around with you.

My problem was identical, except it worked perfectly with my 8ta SIM and Cell C SIM. When I put my Vodacom SIM inside, it did the same thing that you have experienced....continual connect/disconnect in a loop.

I couldn't sleep after 04.00am this morning so I decided to fiddle with settings. I created a new profile in settings, called it Vodacom, changed the APN from auto to manual, APN name to internet, operators name and password both to "guest", and I changed one or two other settings on the router. I then tried it out...success, my Vodacom SIM now also works in my router.

It seems that your problem is within the routers settings. TP-Link could help you with the correct settings. The Cape Town office is very helpful and friendly

I had the exact same problem with that router and a new 8ta sim in a ZTE K4505-Z dongle .. it says connecting but never actually connects.

The solution was to find an updated firmware for that router, apparently it was available for a while on the tp-link site before begin yanked but I read someone found a copy on some german tp-link site. I downloaded it from there, upgraded and everything worked fine after that.

Gimme a shout if what I said don't help, I don't have the exact version no details with me right now but I have the firmware on my home pc so I can upload for you if need be.

I have had continuous problems with this router, same one in question.
Now im not 100% sure it is the router, it could be the usb dongle, no idea.

All I am sure of is that when my internet is down I log into the router and see that it is still identifying the stupid modem...
It can do that for as long as it takes for me to get off my arse and unplug the router and plug it back in.

Wasnt there a TP-Link rep on here somewhere?

See the solution I posted above your post, worked for me.
