Trace route problems please help

Hi everyone

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction..

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere on the forum but cant find an exact match on the search. I cannot tracert to any domain or IP, with any host local or int. through the DSL router, request times out up until last hop where it reaches the destination / displays dest. address.

Its the old Telkom 4 port routers, think its the Marconi. I have connected to the router and all firewall settings are disabled, have also disabled Kaspersky Firewall to test, no luck.

Is there another setting on the router preventing trace route requests?

tracert to an IP address and see if that works
tracert 196.25.1.1

YES - If you can traceroute to that IP address then Check your DNS Server settings
NO - Cannot traceroute check Gateway settings, have you been authenticated by your ISP, is your DSL account been capped

Where does it timeout at your DSL Router ?
 
Sorry I missed your second question.......

1) No - I have not been capped
2) Authenticated by my ISP? Not sure what you mean sorry - Telkom is my ISP as well. Have the account since 2005 (I think, been a long time). And the router is just as old, but it works rock solid, never been down (touch wood).
3) Gateway Settings? Now you got me :-)

Definitely your account. Go buy a prepaid axxess account from engen and try that.
 
Looks like you are getting out from your last hop to telkomsa.net.
Not necessary to post your ipconfig /all.

Place a call to TelkomSA support desk to help you out .
What happens when you tracert www.google.ch
ping www.google.ch
 
Try using Open DNS on your network connection: (I agree with Amida)

On your Local Area Connection, click "Properties", click on "Internet Protocol Version 4", click "Properties", click "Use the following server addresses" and enter the following IP's:

208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
