Okay so now that it does seem to NOT be a network issue but a local one, run the windows PC over Wi-Fi. Then compare the results. If these are similar to those with a direct connection, Wi-Fi and interference is eliminated and its your MAC or some or other sw on the MAC causing the hassles.

(I could of course as a firm believer in Windows PCs say dump the mac ... :whistle:) and Linux ..... [runs and ducks the bullets]

Now I am out of my comfort zone .... you will need advice from others as to how to find out what is going on your MAC ....

:D I set myself up for that didn't I ... LOL

Okay so here's something else now, been doing the same traceroutes on all wifi devices on my network and they all timeout along the route. The only not doing it is the windows laptop hard wired to the router so I think for sure there is a wifi setting or problem I have going on.
 
I would not worry about timeouts along the route, unless there are one or two timeouts on a line along with a response - this would indicate packet loss

eg:
1.1.1.1 * 100ms *
1.1.1.1 * * 100ms


Often, network providers suppress ttl-exceeded messages from their equipment.
 
Then we back to looking for interference or a config issue ....

Already eliminated other routers around you so now to look for other sources as suggested after eliminating a config issue.


And I can't resist ......

Wireless is and will always by a cr@p way of delivering quality connections. Good old fashioned cable connections for "fixed" devices is by far the better way to go, especially for devices doing lots of streaming and large file downloads/uploads.

Surely the MAC you have has a USB port on it? Or is its only connection method Wi-Fi?

3G/WUGs maybe, Wifi in the same building should be fine. I never had connection drops during gaming with WiFi that were related to the WiFi itself.

It can happen, of course, if the hardware is faulty - but I've seen more LAN cables failing than WiFi hardware, so it works both ways.

Well we are so close to Cell-C's head office and they have LTE covering this area perhaps that could also be causing interference. I have now hard set channel 6 on my router as the only other 2 networks that shows up occasionally are on 11 and 1. I will check again tonight but right now ..... 10210 to try and sort out the ASSIA profile.

Look at where it says Rate (Kbps): Downstream 2554 Upstream 508

When they change you to 1Mb/s profile it should read 1024/512 and when switched back to the 2Mb/s profile it should read 2048/512.

Okay so I phoned 10210 and went through your exact directions, first switching to 1Mbp/s profile and then checked and then asked her to switch back to the 2Mbp/s Profile and now it looks correct. So now to test and see if there is any difference.

I really want to thank Ho3n3r, daniellgr, Sinbad and ponder for all your help and advice. It does seem a little better now so let me do some work and see how it's working in my real world scenario and I will report back.
 
about 20 ms more than it should be . Jitter figures are not as good as they should be either.

Latency should be about 30 ms and 1-2 ms jitter.

Hmm, so still not great then. Some things do appear slightly faster but it could just be my imagination. I will have to see over the next few hours and tomorrow morning.

Have you tried to run Zertop's line test?

Okay so can't isolate between the local LAN/Wi-Fi and the line ......

I cannot tell you how much snappier browsing web pages has been since I phoned 10210 and got them to change the ASSIA profile. I am not imagining things but also not jumping for joy until tomorrow morning when I start working again .... for now, tv and rest time, been an entire day fiddling with settings ..... thanks so much everyone.
