TrackMania Nations Forever

only one more hour to go before my ''distant worlds'' download is complete then i can start looking for legit download link to United.

What I meant was that you can buy the CD key from Direct2Drive, you don't have to download the game it from their site.

Actually, Stadium was only introduced in Nations (3rd installment of TM) . The 1st one had Rally, Alpine (snow) and Speed. TM Sunrise had Bay, Island and Coast. Then came Nations (Stadium) and the United version that introduced Dirt

...and that makes my response "hanging in the air" . Next time I'll quote your rants.... :)

I still think that Stadium is tops out of all the environments,
Amen to that. It was obviously the original idea - well thought out and a (not so obvious) perfect balanced recipe...

then Bay, then Island. Excluding Stadium,
TMU: 1.....................Good Ideas: 0

The other "environments" looks and feels like someone had the runs and coded these tracks whilst sitting on a long-drop, drawing inspiration from Archie comics...

I only drive the other environments in Solo.
I'll give them one thing: They have more solo tracks than you can shake a dead monkey at...enter the maze and be prepared to be gob-smacked...

But yes, each environment has its own driving style.
To be honest, I did not know what to expect, but certainly not this! It's more than just driving styles. Not only did they change the environments, but they kicked Newton in the balls and rewrote universal gravitation laws and the three laws of motion, all in one foul swoop...

I know I come across as the president of the piss-and-moan-about-everything club, but my cats are not the best of listeners...

Direct2Drive is overseas. I'm not sure where you can get it locally. Take2 use to sell it, but I see they are out of stock. Seen it at Incredible Connection awhile ago, but they also may not be selling it.

Dan, can you give out some freebe tips on the handling of the different cars?

It seems that with the fast type, you need to drive at full speed and drift in the general direction you want to go.
The "Jello" cars cannot slide in any controllable fashion.
The "Wobbly" cars (desert?) also don't slide well. They don't do anything well. They are good at standing still and moving in a straight line. Pointless.
What is left? Oh ja. The "Rally" type. They don't seem to slide very well either or there is a trick to it.

After investing all the time in downloading United, I feel that I need to drop my prejudice and give the other environments a go but I find them almost impossible to drive. The worst being the "Wobbly" cars. I just don't get them.

The Solo stuff only offers Stadium, Fast and Wobbly races. No Rally and Jello cars to practice...

Thanks Luke. I'm struggling with the labyrinth of Solo menus.

Some even give you coppers. Wish I could find that one again...

I don't do the Stunt or Puzzle tracks. All Solo tracks will give you coppers whenever you achieve (1st time only) gold, silver or bronze times (15/10/5) . Official times will cost you nothing the 1st time, after that 10c a shot :) On the Wobbly cars thing, some cars give that feeling of being more wobbly than others, which makes cornering seem more difficult. My opinion that is :)

Can't really give tips. You just have to get used to them. As for the 'jello' cars (coast), don't even attempt sliding... you have to brake or slow down before the corners.. or even in some cases hit the barrier :)

See? Two great tips right there. In Stadium, braking is a no-no (except for drifting) but bouncing off barriers is a great time saver on some tracks...

I've received a complaint regarding my posting style, so I will tone it down and leave the "spastic attempt at humour" out of my posts. Oh, and I'll cut out the "sexual innuendo" as well. :)

Happy reading...

I haven't got around to those yet...

I take that to mean the first time you try the track? Or is that the first time you complete the track? Damn. I've been doing it wrong then...

Those wobbly cars are just plain silly. I don't last half a round - just too frustrating :(

The engine noises are all wrong as well. It took me almost a year just to find the right stadium car: 1) It had to stand out from the rest so I can identify it amongst a gaggle of other cars and 2) hear the engine noise above the other cars - very important to me.

I don't switch the other cars off - one loses allot of the exitement and it makes it easier to see if your chosen racing line works...

You can race the track as many times as you want, but after the first official attempt you will have to pay 10coppers for every official attempt thereafter. Most people use their coppers to get a better official time and earn better skill points. Make sense...
