Traffic Blitz-Know your rights

Incidentally, if StrongTurd is still reading this thread I'd like to apologise for the utter bollocks I was spouting about stopping distance last week. I know it kinda wrecks my credibility.

The fact that you owned up to your claims by saying this does in fact raise your credibility considerably in my book. We all make mistakes but coming clean is what separates the men from the boys. Good one, mate. Having said that, me and my buddies had a good chuckle at your expense next to the braai this weekend!

Just somethign I heard today, according too AA more than 50 percent of accident where the driver dies is caused by alcohol. Maybe he was speeding cause he is drunk. but in the end it seems alcohol is more fatal than speeding in itself.

Why dont they put up cameras to catch drunk drivers? cause they cant, such a thing doesnt exist, and thus they cannot make money off it so they let it play second fiddle, and what about people that change lanes without indicating and looking in their blind spot, how many of those get fined ever, yet they cause accidents...

Driving under the influence is as common in South Africa as corrupt government officials. Seriously though, it's unbelievable how many people drive when they've had a few drinks. Even after one beer, one's reaction times are severly reduced.

The best solution to the problem, in my opinion, is to provide better public transport.

Cheers, Nick

Spot on.

Indeed. The Church of the Golden Light wants your patronage... indicating when you're halfway across doesn't help! Yes, by observing properly and indicating you might miss that nanosecond gap, but you might also prevent an accident...

I must say I too had a good laugh with friends on the weekend :D . Most of the jokes are too lame to repeat here though.

Well done on owning up.

INFORMATION NOTICE TO SAVRALA MEMBERS

They can only arrest you if:
1. They have the original warrant for your arrest there with them. A copy isn't good enough, saying it's at the station isn't good enough either. They have to show it to you there and then (if they have it, check plan "b").

ahem dude, where is plan B - i might just need it

engineers who take into account factors such as the road condition, bends, traffic volume etc.
So where are the signs providing adjustment factors? What about modifiers for driver ability and vehicle capabilities? Are these figures based on the 'average' car? What if someone is driving a lesser car, what's their speed limit? Or is this all based on the lowest common denominator - 95 year old driving a car with no brakes and no roadholding while wearing a blindfold? This then results in the danger the authorities refuse to admit and no-one wants to properly investigate - that having people drive too slowly causes accidents due to inattention. If I'm driving an armoured 4x4 at 40kph in a suburban area I have absolutely no reason to even be looking at the road - anything I hit is likely to cause only minor damage to my vehicle; probably wouldn't even notice the little bump of driving over a pedestrian. But I'm obeying the limit so I'm good.

Deceiving people into believing that speed limits are absolute results in people adhering to those limits no matter what. Rain, snow, a corner the 'engineers' missed. I've seen trucks, driving at the posted speed limit, nearly lose control on every corner because that set speed was way too high for the vehicle they were driving - cameras ignored them and so did the traffic police. They're sticking to the limit, good for them, nothing to see here.

Before the camera industry took over, speed enforcement in the UK was carried out based on whether the officer felt the driving in question was reckless. You could go well over the speed limit in the dry if you and your car were clearly capable, but they'd pull you over for doing the posted limit in pouring rain. Today you can drive at the limit in rain so heavy a boat would be more appropriate transport, and the cameras are all happy; the police are gone - cameras are more profitable.

Is all this speed determination done by the same 'experts' who put yield signs where you can't see what's coming, stop signs where you can, solid lines on open roads and broken lines on blind corners?

Instead of drivers trained to drive to conditions and determine proper speeds and actions for themselves we have a bunch of automatons who obey the posted rules to the letter, no matter how stupid they might be.

Count me out. Needless to say I disagree with almost everything he says.

Read through some of this, and as someone that drives too fast (according to the law) think I'll add my 2cents.

I drive a fairly decent nissan - marked off at 220Km/h - though I haven't ever gone over 160km/h. This was on the nortwest roads though where I could see into tommorow, and usually I drive round 140 on the highway here in Gauteng. I recently got a fine of R500 for doing 128 on the N1 highway near Centurion, where the speedlimit suddenly becomes 100 for no apparent reason. And guess what, just after this sudden limit on the speed, there's a camera. If this isn't an obvious money making scheme, I dunno what it.

How you can limit a three way highway to 100km/h is bullshiit any way you look at it.

Furthermore, the speed limit has been 120 on highways since 1980, or whenever they first invented roads here. You're telling me that since then cars haven't become capable of safely going faster than that? At 140, I feel the car is very much within safe bounds, and you don't have to grapple the steering wheel to change lanes or whatever. Newer cars, from 2003 or so, I think can easily go 180 safely. Of course, this is not valid if you drive a TATA :p

What *really* gets me is the retards going 120 in the right lane, with an open lane next to them, and then they can't understand if you get impatient behind them. When I drive in traffic, I frequently go at 120 in the left most lane, whereas the middle and right lane is filled with foos going 80 -100. This is creating a dangerous situation though - cause sometimes people moer infront of you at 60. Or you have to do some lane hopping to pass the lone car every now and again in the slow lane. If everyone kept to the left lane and only passed right, this wouldn't be a problem.

To StrongTurd cruising in the middle lane regardless - here's a big fat one to you - stay left if there's no traffic, retard!

I got caught with radar gun at 185km/h at mooi river, i have a no admission of guilt and need advise on what to do!!!!any help would be really nice cant find anything on the net!!!!please help student in distress

Come up with a really good excuse why you were doing that speed, speak to the prosecutor about it, and with any luck you'll get a fine without jail time.

start saving dude - got smacked with a R1800 for 110 in a 60 , the scary thing is that i dont drive fast in 60's - the schmucks like shoving these camera's in a place where the speed suddenly drops.

tip: get a laser jammer - a worthwhile investment of around R3500 - considering im sitting with R3900 worth of fines, pity i dont take my own advice.

Hey Brenden, ol' buddy, I thought that your post was passably well argued until you got to the personal insult bit. I thought that, given such provocation, it would only be prudent of me to return the favour. I think that this little tidbit will suffice: Why don't you go and f**k yourself, you imbecile!

See, that wasn't too bad now, was it?

BTW that Nissan of yours sounds like an amazing piece of automotive technology. What with being marked to 220km/h. Wow. (NOT!). I can understand why you haven't been over 160. It's because that POS is incapable of going any faster!

I don't normally divulge personal information on the Internet but for you I'll make an exception. I drive a 2003 BMW E39 M5 that will do 200 mph (320km/h) if the 250 km/h speed limiter was removed. Yet I still drive within the speed limit. It should be obvious, even to you, that driving that machine at 115 km/h allows for massive reserves of safety.

Quite a lot to read but worth knowing. What I find scary is the police's apparent tendency to trump up other charges if you assert your rights.

Aren't you the bright one. I guess even though new CPU's can run at 3.6Ghz without overheating, we should turn down the clock to 1.5Ghz to have "safety" reserves. The reason why you won't do this, is because you'll be wasting your time. Same goes for driving at 115 when you can easily go 160 and still be safe.

Why on earth do you buy an M5 if you plan to drive around at that speed? For "safety" reserves I guess. Jeesh, paranoia award of the day to you...

And being such a loud supporter of the law, you do realize that you are not abiding by the law by cruising in the middle lane (stay left, pass right the law states). Get off your high horse, pappie, you're choosing which laws to obey. And nowhere do I claim my car is the pinnacle of automobile technology. But sure as hell it's capable of *safely* going way over 120km/h. It's not a pre 1995 model either, so no, the POS as you claim could reach 200 without exploding.

And lastly, the personal attack was deemed appropriate as you're passing insults left and right to "speedsters". Although that one guy with his bike story is surely high on crystallized-meth - extending insults to all those speeding is short sighted, to say the least. Me going at 128 on a 3 lane highway is in no way endangering you or your family. The only thing I'm endangering is my wallet...

O yes, I envy you mister 2003 M5 driver...if you want to divulge personal information to look cool at least say you drive a Porsche.
