Traffic Cameras on R300?

Now with all the road works and the smaller and smaller roads. We drive on, I have now noticed speed signs of maximum speed limit 60kmph:confused:

Anyway I think that is a tad bit ridiculous and it seems so does every other driver.

Now I see these tall yellow looking devices, counted 4 of them so far. Are these actually road cameras?
 
Because of those are, one is supposed to do 60 and all I can say.. If I get a fine, OMF I am screwed.

Not having seen them my guess is that they're cameras. Your description of them is similiar to the ones that can be found on Kloofnek as you're coming down from Camps Bay.
 
Looked at them again today. They are cameras, all I can hope for now that since they are new I hope they are not working yet.
 
The problem with the R300 is that in the left lane all the taxis and fukced up cars from the cape flats drive 50km/h and everyone else in the right hand lane does 120+
 
They are cameras and they work, they had a warning on the radio about them yesterday...good luck man.

They are from the N2 offramp until the N1 on ramp. There are 2 on each side.

FFS, thanks for heads up DDV TECH, strange thing is that these cameras do not flash:confused::eek::confused:
 
Now you know people usually tend to slow down for a camera and then speed up afterwards.

So I admit I did that on Friday, then blow me what happens. There is a guy sitting on a chair with a portable camera about 500meters from the standard camera.

WTF talk about trying to make as much money as possible! DO NOT get caught like I was. This december I am working for the traffic department (paying off my fines)

Now that's just straight up foul but I guess someone's got to pay for the repairs and work on the R300.
 
Any idea exactly where these are? Someone posted between N2 and N1 - that's a long stretch of road...

I haven't seen any between Kuilsriver and Brackenfell...
 
From the N2 towards the N1, the first one is between the N2 and Delft turnoff. The second one is just past the Stellenbosch Arterial, right after the pedestrian bridge.

Going from N1 to N2, the first one is just past Van Riebeeck road and the second one as you approach the Delft turn-off.

Had a huge fright when I saw this thread. Was doing bout 120-130 on the R300 yesterday. But that was between Kuilsrivier and Brackenfell, Phew :P
 
I checked those orange "traffic cameras" on the R300. They are nothing but empty boxes. The lines on the road are "2" black painted lines. Traffic cameras use 3 thin black cables.
The camera's are way too small and there is no flash attached to them anywhere (what, only work during the day?)

I applaud them for putting them up, it should make people drive more responsibly, but they are not real.
 
These yellow cameras are apparently a new type of fixed camera being used in Cape Town the first of which was on Kloof Nek.

If the cameras don't flash its probably because they are a new type of digital camera... as opposed to the older film cameras.

The ones on the R300 are indeed cameras and presumably get moved between the different boxes so that only one is active, or they are doing a speed averaging thing. Im not sure don't have any precise info on that.

Beware though cos there is also a guy catching there with a laser cam somewhere along the R300, permission was granted to catch while the roadworks are being done.
 
Safer to take Cecil Morgan drive from Brackenfell to Kuilsriver and avoid the mess on the R300, but then again they do trap there sometimes as well
