Traffic Cameras on R300?

Now with all the road works and the smaller and smaller roads. We drive on, I have now noticed speed signs of maximum speed limit 60kmph:confused:

Anyway I think that is a tad bit ridiculous and it seems so does every other driver.

Now I see these tall yellow looking devices, counted 4 of them so far. Are these actually road cameras?

Not speeding cameras, Civil Engineers use them.
To check if the road is flat, if the boys are working etc...

I think the camera really does measure speed, and displays it on the large yellow lightbulb display. Its an attempt to get you to reduce speed.

I saw the lasercam dudes yesterday, skulking behind a tree. I think I shall be receiving an envelope in the mail soon, requesting a transfer of funds from me to the Metro cops.

Anyway, what are they doing to the R300? Building a 12-lane freeway?

Would love to know about those yellow boxes as well.

Talking about guys hiding, I know I was caught at least once, probably doing 100 in 60 zone. OUCH! That will be about R600, as long as it is only that one I am happy.

Btw those of you who continue to speed on the R300 enjoy it, as there are now trapping almost everyday. As they were today (and for once was actually going 60)

Quick update, was checking online now.

I see the following:

Notice Number: ***************
Registration Number: ************
Offence Date: 16 October 2008
Municipality: Cape Town
Description Speed:Gen. urban 75-79
Fine Value R 200.00

I am assuming that considering the date, the ones from the "yellow" cameras I did not get. (Thank goodness) Weird though, perhaps I got the date wrong and this is the guy sitting in the chair?

R300 would be urban right>?

Hmm, interesting thanks man. It is possible to judge speed with a surveillance cam and some software, but I do not know if they will use it as such.

I think they are speed cameras because if you take the R300 right to where it runs into Vanguard drive, there's one of those yellow 'cameras' setup to catch guys running the red robot. Some of those measure speed as well?

Well talk about complete secrecy no one knows that those yellow boxes are. Strange!

So far still nothing in the post

there was a guy with his camera sitting right under the Delft bridge.....
I was prob doing about 80 I think... sneaky bugger sat in the "middle" lane, right where they're building the new lane.
I normally leave home at 7 am so never see these guys but this morning I decide to go to work at 9.... caught

Well I know for sure when I was caught I was doing at least 100 which will be about R1200 fine.

Although having these guys around the whole time makes me think if those yellow boxes are real or not.

I actually drive 60 on this road now, not worth the risk

Eish got this fine today:(

Tis ok at least it was only R200. Hopes no R300 fines come along:cool:

For the past 2 mornings they were trapping near the delft bridge, direction N2. This was at 7 am
Yesterday they even mentioned it on the KFM traffic report.

I see them trapping everyday. Every day I alternate between times, one day it is 07:30 and 12:30 and other it is 11:30 and 16:20 and on all those days I see them trapping:eek:

Been a month and still nothing, however I now do not take that chance

I saw a trap at 06h30, direction Mplain, this morning.
I will be so happy when these roadworks are finished.

I can handle the traffic on the R300, but not the people who run across the road. They seriously scare me. If you hit someone at 120km, you're also dead.
I've watched a guy stumble on the road surface when he had to climb over the barrier after running across. I see mothers with babies on their backs running. I see toddlers running after their parents and brothers and sisters. I see blood.

:mad::(

yup saw him too. I passed him at 7 am. He sat under the pedestrian bridge between Stell Arterial and Delft turnoff.
Yesterday I swear the same guy was sitting under the Delft bridge direction M/Plain. Cars were "speeding" so he probably thought...."mmm let me do this tomorrow again".

Yep, that's him. He looked a bit like Alfred E. Neuman, squinting into the sights of his laser camera. Very paraat, I must say, him sitting there onder die brug, so early in the morning. What a cunning stunt.:p

Sorry for keep posting here but I saw this "guy" again this morning, but this time he was stiing on the bridge over Van Riebeeck (Access City). This was at 7h15 am and the sneaky bugger sat huddled against a concrete barrier, so the cars approaching could not see him, then he gets them from "behind"... kinda sounds kinky.
So there you are, driving towards the N2 (M/Plain) and you have no idea this idiot just zapped your rear number plate
Fortunately I travel towards the Bellville in the morning, but still.. sneaky!!

Lucky this morning also traveled towards BV today.

Although I do no take chances on the R300.

Hehe. don't think they are... they look... empty. no flash no nothing.

One cool thing on the R300 is the big board that tells you how fast your going...:p
