So on Saturday I was given infringement notice for not having with me the original Traffic Register Certificate (seeing that I'm a foreigner here)

R1250 fine, or R500 if I go to the JMPD offices and present the documents.

For now waiting to see if it will show up on the system, and most likely elect to make a representation through the AARTO 8 form.

Will report back here on what happens.

Infringement cancelled after successful representation via AARTO 8. Whew!

Foreigners are supposed to carry a Traffic Register Certificate?

Why? Surely your foreign drivers license should be sufficient?

That's what the officer charged me for. I think it's a scare tactic, hoping you'll bribe your way out.

But yes, the legislation accepts my foreign driver's license just fine.

It's basically an enatis ID for foreigners

I've got one but the only time I've ever needed to produce it though is when I renewed my car's license.

Yes, that's what it's for :)
some traffic officers consider it equivalent to a license, which of course is untrue, as you don't even produce a license to be issued a traffic register.

I had the same thing, except I was charged for both not having the TRC and driving without a license(even though I presented it). Got it overturned as well, dunno if it's a scare tactic or just ignorance of the certain laws.
