Traffic

Is anyone also experiencing way more traffic this year? I used to be able to leave my house (14km away from work) at 07h10 in the morning and be at my office by 07h50. Since the beginning of this year I have to leave by 06h30 and just make it on time by 08h00. Some days this week have taken me 2 hours to get to work and there were no issues on the highway or back roads?? This is just crazy!!

I live in Northwold, Randburg and travel along Malibongwe and the N1 to Rivonia..

Hate it!!

I'm in the same area, and yes it is much worse. I come along past rhema church and that stretch of road now is bumper to bumper all the way from malibongwe, never used to be like that. Also as i cross over the bridge i get a full view of the 'new' highway which was supposed to have alleviated a lot of traffic congestion but still looks pretty full to me. All these roadworks have'nt really achieved much in terms of traffic flow!

I have no idea why anyone thought it would.
As long as the suburbs can't handle the increase in traffic congestion all the "upgrades" are doing is keeping more people stuck in the same stretch of road.

Yea - blue one ...

I just recall you saying how you run with one, and I met a red Type R on Northumberland on 18 December. Thought it could be you ;)

Heheheheh, nope, not me that!! But we should have a run sometime. Would love to see :)

Really irritates me. What I have noticed is that the traffic light on CR Swart has been adjusted to allow more cars to get onto CR Swart at the Sasol. This might be causing more back-ups and people take different routes, making those routes more congested!! I dunno what to do anymore, not leaving home earlier that 6h30 in the morning, that is just insane!!!!

This is exactly what I need to do, but I am not going to be sitting at the office from 06h30 if I should only be there by 8. It is just ridiculous that you have to plan your life like this to get to the office that is 14km away!! :( And then u get these irritating fools that just drive down the yellow lanes, but the metro cops just sit there and catch people going 1km an hour over the speed limit.. My traffic is also just 10 times worse for no reason!!

Lucky for me we have flexi hours, if I start at 06:45 I can leave at 15:30, afternnon traffic only takes +- 20min so it does make up for the crappy sleeping hours.

We are considering a move to Sunninghill next year in order to get rid of the whole traffic thing cause its only getting worse.

Well I leave at 6:10 and get to work at 6:18 that is from Douglasdale to Rivonia. Take back roads all the way. Highland avenue to Sloane, to mount to twelfth and then basically at work. The highway is evil!

Its not just you. I also travel from Sonneglans and takes me 45 - 1 hour to travel 16KM. I am actually tired of it.

I take the R24 headed to town and it only used to start backing up just as you got to the Edenvale offramp but now somedays its already backed up all the way from Voortrekker there by the airport :(

I've been making my current journey for more than a year now. As a contractor I'm really considering finding another project just because of this.
As I've said before, I can probably make my life a lot easier using flexi-time etc. but having to constantly fixate on all the parameters related to that is driving me insane.
Just as an example: Getting to work early is fine, until you realize that not synching with the work day times of colleagues and clients makes life a helluva lot more complicated, and there's no way in hell I'm going to start working 10hour days. :(

It's not only you guys in JHB. Down here in Durbs, things are also getting slower. My 35km used to take about 50min, leaving at 7 and getting to work 7:45 to 7:50.

This year its worse. I still leave at seven and are late nearly everyday. I'm going to start leaving at 6:50 from tomorrow. :(

I also have the same issue here in CPT - it normally takes me say 25 or 30 minutes to get to work, but I also noticed that now I have to leave earlier.

I have 2 real choke points and that's getting onto the De Waal Drive and then in Town at the 4 way (Peugout) where the taxi's and normal traffic meet - once I'm past that, I'm fine, but it's these 2 choke points that ultimately decide if I'll be late or early for work - very irratating.

Traffic from work in the evenings is also getting worse resulting in me getting home later. :(

Time for a jonway scooter ?

Some of us are not willing to risk life and limb ...
I know of very few motor cyclists who have not had a serious injury of some sort in their lifetime and I also know of several bikers who are no longer with us.
If we had dedicated motor bike lanes (which taxi's are not able to use) I'd consider it.

Obviously, just saying having head that add one too many times :D

This morning it seemed like all the traffic lights were out of sync. It took me 10 min longer even although I left home normal time.

Over the past few years the traffic has certainly worsened even although more lanes have been added.

I live 35km from work and it takes be around 40 minutes. It could take 25 mins if there wasn't traffic getting onto the N2, once on N2 I am doing 110km/h till I get home :)!

10km from work (Sandton) now takes me 1 hour if I leave at 07h00. Used to take 25 - 35 minutes.

Takes me 15min when I leave at 19h00.
