Hi guys,

My machine seems to be dying from bird flu.

So now I am possibly forced to change the mobo, or mobo + ram + cpu.
So here comes the problem..

I'm looking at the AMD route, because it seems cheaper.
The mobos are seriously cheap, like the M4A79-T Deluxe for R1999.
But my issue is with the CPU.

Why are the 955BE CPUs so expensive? I mean I have not seen a price below R2600 !!
I can get hold of an i7 920 for R2850.

Are we being ripped off here? Shouldn't the 955BE be far cheaper?

So far I've narrowed down the fact that neither Rectum nor Axiz sell the processor.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the AMD CPU for less than 2500?
Either that, or a cheap X58 board?

Fmylife.
:(

Question you need to ask yourself though is that the 955 plus mobo and ram is not that much more than I7.

Amd is there to save money but is it worth going for the 955 amd over the i7?

rectron stopped selling amd ages ago because nobody was buying amd because of core 2, they should selling amd again if you ask me. For i would rather spend the extra amount on the i7 because as i said amd 955 and intel 920 are not priced far apart and the i7 is a better product. If you want to save a grand then go for 955 setup but don't expect to find the cpu cheaper than pcint have it.

The Core i7 920 also overclocks very well, especially the D0 stepping. :)

P6T ASUS Intel X58, LGA1366, 6.4GT/s QPI, 6xTriple DDR3 2000(O.C), 3xPCI-x16(CrossFire & SLI), 1xPCI-x1, 2xPCI, 6xSATAII(Raid 0,1,5,10), 2x eSATA, 2xGbe Lan, 8ch-Sound HD, Max 12xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, ATX

Crossfire and SLI unlike the msi.

2.8k and i am 100% sure that mobo can overclock.

If you can find stock of that board or the Deluxe v2 you will be very lucky. Saying that I might be selling my P6T Deluxe and buying the Rampage II Gene;)

Anyone keen?

/Edit

Actually no, I will be keeping it because I need the frgging SAS ports.

Well this is my situation:

I have a 775 board (P5NE-SLI). Either the board is failing or the RAM and HDDs are going (less likely).

Very strange things happening.

So my worry is this:

Would it be wise to just get a very good 775 board, knowing that I could just get new ram - maybe later even get a Quad Core.

OR

AM3 CPU + Mobo + RAM

OR

i7 + Mobo + RAM

I've just gone to i7 and can highly recommend it. It's a bit more pricey than the AMD stuff though.

me to, paid just over 2k for my i7 2.6 which is not that much more
than the amd's !!!! motherboard 1.5k

plays any game out there 1920x1080 without a problem like crysis warhead on highest settings while autocad 2010 and 3ds max 2010 is still open in windows vista with a bunch of other applications.

3d rendering time on 3ds max is a dream

havent even started over clocking, really dont see the need

can highly recommend the i7

Also looking for a good deal on core i7. Need to finally replace my socket 487 celeron. Autocad and Inventor really struggly on the celery. PCint is the best I can see.

MSI X58M, 8CH Audio, GB Lan, 1394a, No VGA - CF/SLI 6.4GT/s 16X PCI-e x2, 1xPCI, 1xPCI-e 1x, 6x DDR3 1600, SATAIIx7 Raid X58/ICH10R

@killadoob Maybe not hey.

Identity You'll find not much of a price difference with high end 775 and 1366

The phenom2 945 is am3. The reason it's not priced that much cheaper is because performance isn't that far off. Plus you can still oc to the level of the 955 and higher.

i also recently upgraded to i7..must say i am very impressed how easy it OC's..i got 3.6GHz with the stock cooler (temps maxed out to 65'C @ 100% load with prime95 for 30min)

now im running Water cooling..im @ 4.2GHz..temps never went over 54'C @ 100% load

the amd cpu's have to VERY COOL in order to get more than 3.8GHz..yes the amd cpu's run WAY cooler than the i7's but there are guys running i7 920's @ 4ghz..like Juggy with a TRUE with 1 fan..

i say put in the extra $$$ & get the i7..you won't be sorry!

Very true, E8600 and i7 are very closely priced.

Like?

Run Microscope Diagnostic Suite on the PC and isolate the problem before you spend a small fortune on something you don't really need.

Problems:

1) Programs 'dissappearing' from my pc, not uninstalled, just gone. No trace except their installed folders. Reformat didn't help.

2) Disk boot error, every-now-and-then. Fixed by fdisk /mbr.

3) Machine rebooting randomly. Before/During/After Photoshop, Encore and Windows.

To me, it can only be the Mobo, memory or HDD, or all.
