Truth behind Praag Google ad issues

Can anyone point me to concrete examples of the alleged hate speech? Or are these accusations baseless?

It's a little thick for daalder

I had a look at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Speak-out-against-website-Praag/517006865055366 - it says there's some kind of problem, but doesn't say what it is.

Commercially, it is dumb not to be able to make a copy of an ad in Afrikaans - I can do it easily - but I'll take my ad spend elsewhere if I can't reach my audience. I want people to see my ads and buy my stuff.

I assume that since these folks are so against Afrikaans, they view praag through Google translate. This is why they have deal with the door in the house and these people fall into the hole kick.

Hate speech my a$$!!!

Google in California and here in SA consists of a bunch of uneducated idiots who do not know the Afrikaans language. Since they do not know the language they cannot accommodate ads. Since Afrikaans is not on their list of supported languages this is exactly the reason why they are doing this.

However, this is about to be a problem for all Afrikaans websites now. Soon they all can expect to have their Adsense ads removed.

After looking around on that facebook page @cfilorux linked, one of "examples" they give ofof the alleged hate speech is:

An article written by Dan Roodt where he poses the question in all earnest: "are the bantu that stupid?" enough said

Linked to here.

While there is no context given, to some sort of perspective to the quote, I have to take into consideration that my ex-gardener (a black guy from Malawi) recently asked me a similar question w.r.t. the vast majority of black South Africans. Enough said.

I swear people seem to dream up a 'conspiracy' to make a rather mundane story interesting.

There's nothing to see here, it's just google not supporting afrikaans as a language. Looks to me someone just "hinted" at hate speech to spicen things up a little, i didn't even know this site existed before all this.......

And why exactly does it cost R10k to maintain this site? Are they paying journalists to write articles for them?

Why is this site getting so much air-time. Never even knew this site existed!

Anyways... racism is not on these days against anyone. If they are promoting it, even subtly, they must burn at the stake.

Just my 2c

Press statement by Praag about DDoS attack

Over the past few days, starting on Tuesday morning, a massive cyber attack involving potentially tens of thousands of computers in a so-called Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) Attack was executed against websites and servers of PRAAG. The object of the attack was to bankrupt PRAAG and its service provider through the consumption of bandwidth and damage to network infrastructure.

At times the DDOS attack brought down the PRAAG servers but currently both the Afrikaans site at praag.co.za and the English one at praag.org are online.

Dr. Dan Roodt, Director of the Pro-Afrikaans Action Group (PRAAG) a community news service and cultural organisation, said in a statement: "We are absolutely astonished at the level of cyber activity currently directed against us, by extremist anti-Afrikaans groups in South Africa. There are also several Facebook pages run by people under assumed identities who wish to shut us down, ostensibly because we support anti-crime protests and multilingualism in South Africa."

The cyber attack caused considerable damage not only to PRAAG, but also to its service providers and their networks, creating criminal liability under SA legislation. In addition, there are grounds for a civil suit if the perpetrators could be located.

"We are going to lay charges with the SAPS under the Electronic Communications and Transactions (ECT) Act 25 of 2002 for the DDOS attack against us, but also against those anonymous individuals slandering us on Facebook, social media, and in relation to potential advertisers on our site, said Roodt.

"We are not going to take these attacks lying down," Roodt continued. "Our readers and supporters are right behind us and hundreds have presented themselves as volunteers to counter these attempts at muzzling us. However, we will not be using the distasteful and underhanded techniques of our opponents but will be defending ourselves in an open, transparent and legal manner."

Good luck with that...... Cyber crime is still a mystery here in SA. Have you seen/heard of any convictions. If yes, please share

If anything JStrike has a superiority complex so your statement needs further explanation before it can be taken seriously, are you saying the site is not full of racists or are you implying something else?

haha fair enough :)

So Google is full of uneducated idiots, and not in fact, full of PHD's? Do tell me more oh educated one

Lol sad part is most of us never knew about this site... bet it got a lot more traffic recently (for what its worth)

Hi

Please can you give some concrete examples of the alleged racist remarks? Thanks.

Regards,
Sodan

No specific remarks, just general tone. Much like the Red October march was not specifically racist, but it's tone was.

General tone? Is that what you base your allegations of racism on?
