Truth behind Telkom ADSL performance problems

I fail to see why I should care about who or what is TI and what is Telkom. I get a single account from an entity called "Telkom". I just want what I pay for!
It's called Wholesale/Retail separation as enforced under legal obligations following the Competition Commission's ruling. I predict plenty of fun and games in the short term!

My exchange became congested after moving my line over to Afrihost apparently. Resyncing from 3072 to 4096 almost daily FML :(

I thank my blessing every day that I'm not on a congested exchange.

Can I get an Amen! I hope it stays this way but I'm very pleased with Telkom when it comes to my home connection, everything is good except the price

My exchange has several DSLAMs, including a newish IMAX. Mostly 4 and 10Mbps customers were allocated ports on the IMAX, which is provisioned with metro-ethernet backhaul links (nice and fast).

With the speed upgrades those of us that were pushed from 2 to 4 Mbps were not moved onto the IMAX and left on the old DSLAMs that are now full and provisioned with slow ATM backhaul links.

So the IMAX crowd are happier than pigs wallowing in mud while the rest of us wallow in the pigs' shit.

I have yet to see my "Free line speed upgrade" from Telkom. Still sitting on 1Mb.

Same, only I'm on 2Mb that was supposed to be free upgraded to 4. Instead I got a free downgrade to 1.6

I really feel this sort of issues will get ironed out more effectively now that Telkom has split. Maybe wishful thinking, but there is a good chance.
In theory it should... TI have a contract and a service level agreement with Telkom Wholesale and can activate penalty clauses if TW cannot deliver. Where this previously may have been glossed over or swept under the carpet, now it cannot be done.

Still waiting for my upgrade from 4mbps too 10mbps. Telkom have so far not responded to multiple queries, at least 3 written escalation complaints have been totally ignored and at least two reported faults cleared without upgrade. No one from telkom is willing to speak to me and tell me the truth as to why the upgrade has not been executed.

Echo...

WILL THEY EVER RESPOND????

Where's all the so-called transparency that the new CEO promised?

:(

Oh dear! Not really the sort of fun and games that anybody here is looking forward to if the past few weeks are any indication.

LoL !! If you`re gullible , you`re gullible... And how exactly will this impact the Telkom results that get`s published ? I`m talking bottom line ?

Rather argue the Regulatory implications...

O please , regulatory implications enforced by a lame duck handing out wrist-slaps. No , I prefer to rather argue the fact there will be no real separation between TI and TW with one board , CEO and one set of financials. Same old smoke and mirrors nailing users and ISP`s alike for every cent. Pity though , I think TI`s new management team are very competent and catching up quickly.

Then you are the gullible one here... have a chat to ranger and ask him how badly TI has been impacted, with no consideration to TI's bottom line.

do you honestly expect him to admit differently on here ? Don`t think things are to tough at TI at the moment. They just managed to double the line speed of all their Uncapped customers ...something non of the other major ISP`s ( apart from Axxess I think ? ) could manage ( based on what I understand from Afriman`s and the oke from Cybersmart`s comments ). Are they really that much more efficient than the rest ?

I have only noticed users who have bundled ADSL experience congestion issues, are there any users here who still own their own line and have congestion issue?

They did provide a reason why they could do it - think there was a MyBB article about it as well. They get their IPC at exactly the same rates as other ISPs.
