Tshwane - Pretoria

that is how it was since Pretorius forced his name on the area.

Please explain your logic in the above quote. Pretorius forced his name on the area how?
Can we then assume that every single name change that has been made to reflect the names of black heroes has also been forced upon the nation?

Really??

Wow, if you can be wrong about that, think of all the other things you can be wrong on too...

MENLYN IS IN PRETORIA WHICH IS A AREA IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF TSHWANE.

That is how it is ATM. And I think if there was to be a referendum, that is how it would stay.

AFAIK, I have still not seen any concrete evidence that this Tshwane bloke ever existed.

SO which part of pretoria would fall under Tshwane? Irene, Lytelton, Waterkloof?

Correct.

Now add Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Attridgeville and Hammanskraal.

That is Tshwane. Created that the black suburbs can sponge of the whites. For absolute no other reason.

Silverlakes was included with Bronkhorstspruit. Any logical reason for that, other than the whiteman's money?

If you look at the old records, housed in the state library in Pretoria, you will see how small the area of Pretoria really is, the other suburbs afterwards fell under the Greater Pretoria Municipality, which was changed to the Greater Tshwane Metroplitan Municipality, so for all intents and purposes, Pretoria is a small area ( a part of the city center ) within Tshwane, Menlyn falls outside this area, as does the Union Buildings

For a very long time, people have referred to the area as Tshwane - think of people talking about Mamelodi ya Tshwane

The previous mayor said there will be a vote, I heard him myself live, there wasnt a vote, so no name change according to me...

There was a vote, the vote was held after a debate in the Tshwane Metro Council, and the councillors voted for the name to be adopted as the name of the city

No no my friend, you are using some flawed logic there.

Look at that map I posted, allright, can you read? Ok, see the area demarcated as Pretoria, ok?

That area, IS Pretoria. It fell under the old Pretoria municipality. The other areas there, had their own municipalities. Like Centurion had it's own municipality until about 2000. Same goes for all the areas.

So, they then threw together all the municipalities to form Tshwane.

Do you see the picture now??

Saying the other suburbs of Pretoria, like for example menlyn, garsfontein etc.
was not part of Pretoria is just plain idiotic.

They fell under the municipality of Pretoria, and thus was regarded as parts of Pretoria. None of those suburbs was ever regarded as anything else.

Menlyn is in Tshwane, it is not part of Pretoria, no matter how you look at it, Pretoria is only the a part of the city center, that is how it was since Pretorius forced his name on the area.

Dude, then i can say Menlyn is in South Africa it is not part of Tshwane. Tswhane is only part of the "country-interior". That's how it was since mankind forced the words "south" and "africa" on planet earth.

See your flawed logic? If Pofadder gained 10 more suburbs and expands to the size of Bloemfontein then it is STILL Pofadder....

Oh, and on a side note: Where exactly would the "City center" of Tshwane be? If Menlyn is in Tswhane [and not in Pretoria], where is the city center ? City Center being the ORIGINATING BUILT UP area of a town/city (i'm specifically talking City Hall/Main Road stuff here)

Good luck with the new names, because us foreigners sure will not be using it soon. Google Maps still shows Pretoria, Warm Baths, Pietersburg, and so forth. Textbooks all over the world still shows it, and I doubt the blackification of names will make it into the textbooks soon.

Tip: When traveling abroad, make sure you use the real (old) names. Otherwise they won't understand you. People know where Pretoria is; Tshana is not understood.

Yea, irony is they are gonna push all the 'big' name changes through right before 2010 to cause total chaos....fun.

This probably includes the name change of Potchefstroom, and then it's just a slippery slope for Bloemfontein,PE,East London and Durban [regardless of whether it has apartheid naming in it or not]....Cape Town International Airport to follow soon.

Of course i'm gonna plead idiot when they talk about the new names, want to know where "OR Tambo Airport" is? I don't know, only airport near me that do international flights are called Jan Smuts Airport....

The Johannesburg airport code (ICAO) is still FAJS [FA = South Africa] [JS = Jan Smuts].

Yeah the most people in the world can't even pronounce the names. The ANC is wasting so much money that could have used for education, health and security. Laughable at best.

They will learn. There are other countries with names that most people cannot pronounce.

Why are everyone so offended by names, what is in a name? LOL

My lord, I'm more concerned about the amount of time, money, effort spent squib ling about things like name changing when we have MUCH bigger problems on our hands like rampant crime, AIDS,massive underemployment, etc. Somehow the people in South Africa are being kept busy with the name changing, which in it's self causes scratching open of old wounds, as can be clearly seen in this forum I've never seen racism like in this forum. And that's from both the WHITE and BLACK people here.

Every single thread here turns into a Black VS. White issue, I thought the people here were at least somewhat educated. *sigh* guess I was wrong! We still have a long way to go...

Gnome, I'll just call you IDIOT from now on. I'm sure you won't mind. LOL!

Sorry Bud, no offence but you get my point?

the real point is that when there are riots in the country due to non-delivery or mob justice nobody knows whereTF they mean :p

/shakes head/
