Tshwane - Pretoria

Bela Bela is a small district about 10 km out of Nylstroom on the way to Vaalwater. Now Warmbaths is also known as Bela Bela. How on earth can the same name be applied to two geographical different locations within a 60 km radius.

Stupid is it not?

This is a classic example of a bigot. Practice what you preach. Seems like people like you have not gotten used to the old original names of places in the first place. Places that were not there before. How dare you preach if you cannot even sustain what you advocate in the first place.
Read what you posted.

The old names were names forced on the people of this country by colonial and Apartheid powers, with the change to democracy, discriminatory legislation and institutions had to be changed, the same is just being done to place names

most things in this country was and is being built by the sweat and blood of the black man, so they will name it

tsk tsk... I am sure the cities we have today would existed without the hated colonials. We all know the sophisticated society that existed here before the colonials came.

Yes, indeed, it was a very sophisticated society, society based on respect, and honour, unlike the barbaric nature of the west, which was imposed not only in Africa, but all over the world, probably the reason we have the problems we have today, Global Warming, etc.

Inhumane Bull Slaughter.

a society that did not have writing, invented the wheel, or made any scientific contribution...but ja, very sophisticated...lol

Yes, and writing, the wheel, and all science comes from the West, jy is maar baie dof boet

all science does not come from the west...did I say that ?
what science comes from pre-colonised black Africa ? and in particular South Africa ?

This is really not an argument about place names but rather priorities.

There is an obvious stand-off that needs to be negotiated (well I guess with these guys it's actually more like looked over) when it comes to the allocation of public monies.

Do we change a name or feed a nation (jobs and social grants)?
Do we change a name or educate a nation (all levels of training and development)?
Do we change a name or heal a nation (all levels of health care)?

Aggh, bugger it, we'll change a name, cos people don't mind if they're hungry, uneducated and dying but they do mind if a place is not named after their forefathers (if they can actually read the sign on the side of the road that is)!!!

precisely
2000 black people in Ikageng (township near Potch) protested the name change...they want schools, hospitals, ***huise, electricty
they dont care about the name...but the fat cat ANC mayor thinks differently

That is why we have a budget, money has been allocated to education, poverty relief, and health, the name changes are to heal a much deeper wound

it's not as if there was a black town where potch is standing now ? so the voortrekkers did not invade the "old" tlokwe and changed the name to Potchefstroom.
they STARTED a new town and called it Potchefstroom
what did they do wrong ?

funny how only Afrikaans place names get changed...

True, we have a budget, pity it squandered on rubbish. Life is more important than pride!!!

Host 2010 or house a nation?
Host 2010 or transport a nation?
Host 2010 or power a nation?
Host 2010 or build a united nation?

Aggh, bugger it, we'll host 2010 cos at least the masses will have something to watch on their TVs (since the tickets will be way out of the average middle class person's budget, of course we might actually need electricity to power said TV sets) while they're on the poverty stricken deathbeds.

Yes, heal old wounds, but not before you get the basic requirements for life right/in place first. It's all a bit topsy turvy to me. These guys couldn't organise **** in a sewerage.

The science that was used in pre-colonial Africa, was used in Africa, it was not exported as the tribes of Africa had no need for world domination, do you really think the colonial powers would give credit to African intellectuals for the knowledge they gained and stole from the black man - here I am talking about things that include but are not limited to - the Astronomers of Mapungubwe, and the war tactics of Shaka Zulu

You talk about knowledge, as if it's a car that can be stolen, and thus gone from the original owner. You do realize that knowledge is like a porn movie on your HDD, which can be copied to another HDD, and still stay intact on your HDD?

Nobody stole the knowledge from "the black man". The "black man" lost it all on his own (if he ever had it).

Shaka's war tactics wasn't really that ownage...he may have won a few battles, but lost the war...
where can we find more info on what the astronomers of Mapungubwe discovered ? and how their knowledge helps SA today ?

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapungubwe
"Mapungubwean society was "the most complex in southern Africa". It is thought by archaeologists to be the first class-based social system in southern Africa--that is, its leaders were separated from and higher in rank than its inhabitants."

an early form of apartheid maybe ?
