Turning 40

Congrats, I turned 40 three years ago. No major changes. Same rules apply though...eat healthy, exercise but it does feel at times that my body takes a bit longer to warm up. Be grateful that you have made it this far in one piece with no major complications.I know that I am.

The good news is that turning forty is no different than being in your thirties. Nothing really changes...

The bad news is that your late forties are coming.

That’s when the aches start.
That’s when your joints start saying, ‘you want me to what?!’
That’s when sleeping through the night without having to go to the bathroom becomes a reason to have a celebratory beer.
That’s when waking up after 5:30 or 6:00 becomes a rarity.

I could go on, and on but it just gets more depressing.

Anyway.

Smoke ‘em if you have ‘em, the train wreck starts here.

I rarely get up after that time, so if I get to that age, I'm screwed

LOL. It’s the little things.

In my twenties and thirties I could sleep in ‘till midday on weekends... Now I’ve been up for ages, read MyBB and a bunch of news sites, planned the weekend sport schedule, messaged my mates, and am on my third coffee - a takeaway from a 24 hour garage shop - waiting in my car for a bakery that opens at seven to open its doors.

I'm turning 38 today, the wife turned 40 earlier this month. I've been dead inside since 22 so no change really.

Happy birthday man. I am also 38

Yeah, exactly what cguy said. When you're one, one year is 100% of your life, two, 50% of your life and so on. I must say, I have just started exercising again and it's really hard. When I was in high school I could smash 5km's in 25 minutes, no problem.

Hope this is not a repeat of another thread...

So I'm turning 40 this year any other '79 babies on here?

I really don't see it as any sort of milestone I feel pretty much the same as I did when I was 27. I'm curious to know what the rest of you think about this magical (pffft) birthday?

'79 er checking in. Wife was earlier this year, mates wife last December, he's in two months and I'm in October. Agree with the no difference comment. We haven't done anything extravagant for the day even though its a "milestone". Feel the same, I actually look younger these days unless I don't shave ( can go from early 30's to 45+ ). Wife had a nice lunch for her birthday so she didn't have to clean and I'm considering a spit for mine later this year.

The only thing I really feel more this days, is less tolerance for stupidity :p

I did the "life changing" go from 120kg to 80kg and become fit thing when I turned 30 - the closer I get to 40 (and 90kg) I realise that trying to do with I did back then now would be extremely hard.

One thing I do think of more these days is having an affair. I've told my wife about it and I guess I could do it but in the end the logistics and admin would be too much for me.

Wow, so your wife is completely happy with this, provided you tell her. Interesting. Yeah I was at a comfortable 76kgs in my younger years. Now, I hover at around 85kg. I love beer and chocolate too much.

She is, we are open. But I doubt I'll actually do something like that. As things are I already don't have enough hours in the day.

I love beer but cut back on that, I try to stick to red wine and as little as possible at that. My weakness is bread with peanut butter and golden syrup.

Somehow 36 was a bigger deal for me. Think about it, your first 18 years you have little say over what you do. The next 18 years you should make the most of but most of us just spend it working. The 18 years after that you keep on working and maybe raising kids. Only then you get to enjoy the last 18 years - if you are that lucky to make it that far and have that many years.

You'll still think you are in your 20's but you will not feel like it...

43 now. Still playing rugby, still jogging, still eat way too much meat at the braai. still swig way too much booze at the braai. nothing changed. except the youngster chirping me 'oom' on the field.

But expect a few gifts, like oxygen tank an dwalkers and salusa 45 for you biffday...

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that our brains stops remapping itself at that stage? I know it's an oversimplification of what actually happens but hey it's 8am...

Affects everyone as we get older. This clip explains it pretty much how I understand it.

I had a bit of a health scare a few years back when I was about 38 or so that got me to start exercising again. I am fitter now than I was at 35 which helps. Even just 30 minutes of decent cardio 3 times a week can be fairly life changing if you were sedentary before that. More is obviously better but I just don't get the time.

Spitbraai ?
I'll join, only if your tyre pisser is on the menu

I'm turning 38 today
I'll have a whishey on you tonight then podarok.gif

what do you think about this magical (pffft) birthday?
I think we make a fuss about it and invent quotes like "Life begins at 40", because most of us are actually scared of getting older and probably suffer from FOMO too. But everyone should have a certain age that they personally "admire" and look forward to turning. Mine was turning 30.

I like this quote:
"The day you stop celebrating your birthday, is the day you're officially old."

Just realised I was drunk on my 40th, but had good reason to be............. I even recall doing prawns on the braai and being mega depressed and worried at the same time.......

You are about ready to have a midlife crisis.
I really hope not. I had the quarterlife one at 25 and it sucked. Didn't do silly things just had to make really hard decisions and it caused lots of stress.

I don't know about that quote hey. I believe people should be celebrated more than just once a year and that's what a lot of these days are to me. For instance I buy my wife small gifts weekly and tell her I love her deeply daily through messages and things. So why celebrate Valentines day?
