i imagine the idiocy of a liberal becoming a racist is like an atheist becoming a born-again christian.

racism is a logical fallacy, no matter how much a government or country pisses you off, i can't see how someone can ever move towards seeing becoming racist as a smart move

Exactly we are all born racist, so you cannot "turn" into one. Racist behavior however sometimes only manifests after the "other" population group commits enough "crimes" (social/material/etc.) for you to see all of them as being the same. It's not something that just happens because you are a horrible person, it happens because you simply receive too much negative input and not enough positive input from the other group.

Then it is the ANC he ought to take issue with. The ANC behave like this against all criticism black or white. They use the k-boetie label like the AWB do when people of their own race associate with the other colours.

no, we are not born racist, just the same as we are not born sexist or paedophiles.

despite negative input, it is your perception and how you wish to see life. obviously seeing all men as monsters and rapists is not a healthy world view, viewing all women as sluts and money-grabbers is not a healthy world view, but seeing all people of a certain race as thieves and murderers is a healthy world view?

people see what they want to see. they see evil where there isn't any, they see gods where there aren't any, they see conspiracies where they coudn't be any

because it's a perception. unless he was talking about racism as somethign symbolic, there is no way he could be a non-racist, seeing people as individuals and then suddenly moving to a point of illogical behaviour to seeing all people as being exactly the same. it's like saying you've been an atheist all your life when you've only said it to spite a god that youy were angry at

Except that anyone white that ever takes issue with the ANC is labeled racist just for that. It is easy to see that someone might think that while you're at it you might as well take the major stakeholders on as well. What everyone is missing is that this is not just a logical issue but also an emotional one, lots of fear and hurt feelings. People go overboard, it happens. Also I must say that it is ridiculous that everyone conveniently forgets the legions of non-white's that are thoroughly racist towards black's and focuses solely on the nearest whitey. Must mean we are more important :P

The ANC have always been "fighting white people". Nothing's changed, they still think they are doing the same thing they were formed to do. They didn't turn anything, it's what they have always been. Some of them anyway.

Racism is not a mental desease you can catch from others, it's part of the human condition. People have always been racist and always will be, I have yet to discover a historical period in which no area had anyone non-racist. Any btw, it is a fallacy that race=skin colour, the Spaniards and the Germans for example are both white but belong to two completely different races. I would also say the Koreans and Japanese but after all the intermingling you really cannot tell these days.

Gonna ignore this thread now, to say any more would be to talk in circles....hardly original.

people have also always been stupid, doesn't mean it should be encouraged.

there are plenty of white nazis who hate spanish and portuguese people. there are even black nationalists who have criteria for someone to be african. not every black person on the African continent looks the same either
 
If all you see in the media are people acting like apartheid era stereotypes of their race, destroying, rioting and murdering then it is easy to slip into the thought patterns that people are those stereotypes.

I think that the people in power have an obligation to prove those negative stereotypes wrong.

We need more people like Moeletsi Mbeki in power showing the world that honest, reasoned, intellectual, ethical and responsible black people are out there and that those qualities are respected by the vast majority who vote. Until then the racism mindest will be too easy to slip into.

Whites? What the heck does "whites" have to do with the issue when he uses it in that all-encompassing way????

Honestly a person shows a distinct lack of intelligence/education if some events happen and then they perpetuate it on, what lets say a billion people of the same race? That's like trying to justify its okay to hate and treat all Muslim people as terrorists because of what a few idiots do.

Nobody is born racist but its happens through the people you associate with and the lack to see people as individuals but rather to categorize them into races and then judge them.

If you dislike something culturally, like say polygamy, fine that can be understood but disliking or hating someone because of their colour? That's just plain stupid.
