Turnkey Linux is an open source project developing a free virtual appliance library that features the very best server-oriented open source software. Each virtual appliance is optimized for ease of use and can be deployed in just a few minutes on bare metal, a virtual machine and in the cloud.

Why? Because everything that can be easy, should be easy.

Packaging a solution as a virtual appliance can be incredibly useful because it allows you to leverage guru integration skills to build ready to use systems (I.e., turn key solutions) that just work out of the box with little to no setup.

Looks like an easy way to set up all the most favourite applications (LAMP, Ruby, Joomla, Drupal, Redmine, etc, etc.)

I run lamp on a virtualbox with Netbeans PHP client side IDE, you do still need to apt get some apps for PHP to do server side debuging and be into config files to set paths or something to that affect. To manage most things Windows Commander does FTP very well and also SFTP with Dred plugin into your server, now and then you might need to use Putty. Most things are through Webmin, phpMyAdmin etc. Though mySQL has some decent client side tools (workbench, querybrowser ...).

Yeah all decent software, just I find debugging javascript a pain even with firebug. dunno why.
