Thanks genetic.

I am not wearing the hat. I am fully aware how the system works and I'm a Microsoft supporter. I am just posting the link for reference purposes and to those whom wish to turn off data collection and telemetry. The fact that it is active and can't be turned off with a simple on/off switch is a bit off putting to me to be honest. Microsoft should make it opt in, in my opinion. Be a bit more transparent about what they do and I believe they will garner more support. This cat and mouse game is not bringing them support and is doing their reputation harm.

Again, I do support their efforts and I think Windows 10 is definitely a step in the right direction. It's the best Windows operating system to date.

Thanks for the article. I tried to search for something similar, but my keywords lacked.

Not having a go at you personally, but your first sentence is interesting.

What is a Microsoft supporter ? Do they have a rugby/football/cricket/whaterver team ?

Microsoft/Apple/Google etc. are companies supplying the products and services. They dont need our "support". They provide a selection products and services which we can choose to buy or not to buy. They are not a football/rugby/cricket team. They are not a political party or a community social club. They are not your local primary/secondary school.

If people think they are spying on them then:
1. dont use their products.
2. Complain to them and ask them to stop
3. Accept their sh*t and carry on using their products

But, there is no reason to feel sorry for them and make excuses for them :)

Slightly off topic.

I have 99+ notifications on my lock screen and I can't seem to get rid of it, even after I viewed everything related to it.
All my notifications in settings are switched off but for some reason... sigh.

Anyone know of a quick fix?

Easiest way is to just disable the whole notifications and action center, google will help you there.
If you already did that and its still showing, then I'm not sure.

Never force people to do anything against their will. That's my motto in life. Should we start forcing Microsoft to bend according to our needs and desires? Take it like a Man M$? No. No is always no. It's a poor excuse.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Can you elucidate further so that I understand why you're saying this?

It is going to happen earlier or later. Even heard a word from a large MS OEM partner: Fix this f$%k#n Windows or you are going down...

You choose not to understand. It's not a difficult comprehension task and does not require much precessing on your part either. Microsoft do not allow people to opt in or opt out of data collection or telemetry. They force it on their userbase. That's it. Try to understand it. Please.

I hear you. I tend to not care much for a person that can't practice self control and emit it the way this OEM has done. I bet Microsoft's management feels the same way. If you are in business you need to have etiquette and respect. You can't speak in this manner, no matter how infuriated you are.

I am a Microsoft supporter, meaning, I use their products, work with it on a daily basis and I support their initiatives. I do not wash their laundry. I'm not their nanny or their butler either. I'm a Linux supporter as well. This thread was just not pertinent to Linux. I'm an Apple supporter as well, the same holds true as previously stated. I wish people's condemnation would just stop about what they read into every word and sentence . We are talking about technology, we are not here to demean or belittle each other.

Ok. I got a little bit lost with the above. All I know is, that I love my Windows 7 Professional, which I purchased for about R2700 a few years ago. Much like I loved Windows XP back in the day.

I do not accept Microsoft trying to force me to change to a new product that I have not willingly chosen. This is ridiculous. I don't get why they are not being sued for huge sums in the USA.

No one is forcing you change. Not even Microsoft.

Generally technology evolves. If you don't want to evolve with it, then you are more than welcome to live in the past.

One false statement and one false assumption regarding future and the past.

1. False statement.
Microsoft does. They make Windows 7 the same crappy as Windows 10 by pushing telemetry to Windows 7 with recent Windows Updates. People sensitive to spying on them have to reinstall Windows 7 and do selective updates, as there is no way to remove this crap. This also means that their Windows will be not up to date, vulnerable to hacking. Not everybody is ready for that. If telemetry was a reason holding them from upgrade, now there is no reason to stay with Windows 7. There is also bullying tactics and nag popups.

Officially they support Windows 7 till 2020, but what they do behind the scene, is completely unethical and violating consumer rights. Expect Microsoft will spend lot of money in future responding to lawsuits.

2. False assumption about future and the past.
Microsoft follows a thrend which was silently spreading out, it is true. However implementation is so intrusive that it immediately took attention and generates public outrage. Microsoft is probably killing this trend by failing to do it properly. I personally think this trend will have to stop, as it violates consumer rights. Technology will envolve, but if I don't follow wrong trends, I don't live in the past (it was your second false statement), I do create a new path. Wrong trends will be rejected, like it was in the past with copy protection on the media.

That's not what I was confused about, but it doesn't matter now.

Windows 10 spying?

Next, please share how you disabled spying on your smartphone.

And then there's those toxic wifi beams...

Tinfoil hats on - but why do I get the impression that Kaspersky and Windows are fighting? The amount of times I come on and I am told Kaspersky is disabled, always seems to correlate with another intrusive Windows 10 "update" or attempt to get me to get this "free".

Care to expand?
Very briefly: there's no spying in or by Win10. Telemetry, yes. That's a good thing - I expect a modern operating system to phone home and report on how things are running. This helps the devs keep the pipes clean.

Well, I am going to disagree with you. As far as I am concerned, the pipes are clean with Windows 7. And how are you so sure about W10 after all the negative reports about how it does "spy" on you?

... Oh, and chuckling at codgers like sajunky railing at the cosmos. His existential pain is palpable...
