Tutu withdraws from leadership summit

Tutu stands next to Mandela as one of South Africa's great leaders. He has never endorsed terrorism but has made many sacrifices and risked his own life to save the lives of others. His uncompromising message of peace and forgiveness helped to transform South Africa into a wonderful country.

We can all be greatful for such lives and leadership which have paved the way for the prosperity we enjoy. Some of us are humbled by these examples.

Blair started his political career with the right ideals but was totally corrupted until he was lying and defying his own people until they had had enough and ousted him. Unfortunately the war he started still lingers on and has helped destabilise a whole region. This will yet come back to bite all of us. Meanwhile he openly showed who his allies were - tyrants in Egypt, Syria and elsewhere.

That is not my definition of a leader and I cannot for a second fathom why Discovery would want to associate with such non-greatness.

Let us know which politician you consider to be "perfect".

Tell us who you consider your "definition of a leader and whom Discovery would want to associate with, due to their greatness..."

Please excuse us as we cackle...

EDIT: Forgot to mention, that Mandela is no more than just another person, who decided at some point, to bomb civilians, for which he was rightly convicted, then served his time. Tutu is nothing more than an African, who adopted a particular religion, one of a great many, one which is nowhere as innocent as Buddhism, for instance...and he sounds ridiculous when he laughs that gollum laugh.

Don't get invited to many business breakfasts then?

What does that have to do with leadership seminars?
Business is focused on a capitalistic goal.
The kind of leadership these guys are talking about at the Discovery Forum is a whole 'nother kind of leadership.
But I guess I can forgive you for not knowing the difference.

What type of leadership are these guys 'preaching' then?

Mandela is 'just another person' but also a great leader. Fortunately most of the world and South Africa realises this, so the occasional post like yours doesn't really detract from his greatness.

There was such a clear distinction in business 40 years ago maybe, but the great business leaders of today would see their roles, and that of their companies, as moving beyond 'making money'. What they call 'good citizenship' is the basic cost of doing business. Some businesses have neglected that point, to their peril. This is all covered well in the King reports on Corporate Governance which originated in South Africa but now enjoy international acclaim.

One could argue that bombing innocent civilians and spending the rest of time in jail isn't really a good leader.

But I don't critique that part of his leadership, I say Mandela failed in leadership post-apartheid.

No. Zero respect.
He gave final approval to his speaking engagement a long time ago, and when he gave that approval he knew who else was being billed to speak. He made a commitment and he is now reneging on that commitment. Hardly the traits of a so-called leader or religious man.

Discovery has spent a lot of money on the conference through marketing and advertising specifically billing Tutu as a speaker. If there is any financial repercussion as a result of his actions, I hope they sue him.

Agree.

Discovery should sue Tutu. If you commit to something you should go through with it. Seems Tutu is losing it at his old age.

Mandela was president when the arms deal was done. We should never forget that.

He chose to support the ANC back when it was still a terrorist organisation committed to using bombings and killings of civilian peoples in order to further their political aims.
That was his decision back then... no doubt he also "prayed" about that? ;)
Does he really have room to talk now?

because white people were nice and black people protesting got them so far ;)
