My sister currently uses a Toshiba media player hdd type thing that's plugged into the tv to watch series from but it does not play .mp4,mkv etc file formats. Is there any replacement someone can recommend she can buy that plays most formats? Except for hp microserver.

I'm not too sure. She does want something similar to what she currently uses but obviously not too expensive. She does not need anything smart, just a plain player that plays most formats.

It must have an internal hdd to store the media files on.

Esquire sells the AC Ryan range. I bought the AC Ryan Playon Essential HD a while back when it was on special. Bought it for my parents to use and it plays everything and you can also install a hard drive inside the unit as well as connecting USB drives.

Costs around R650.

Yay! Don't have an account with esquire... But thanks for the recommendation.

My Toshiba Blu-Ray player is able to process some .mkv files, when sourced through USB. Let me know if you want model and full range of supported file formats
