A step in the right direction. Now they just need to make it much cheaper.

Can still get what I need cheaper and faster using alternative distribution channels :)
 
i must admit ive been following homeland and revolution. dont mind being a week behind. the more popular shows have still got a waiting period though. i think the more popular, the more expensive for them to purchase. i saw dexter also started. lots of new shows infact.

That's the funny word of the day..She been having it!! One could also put in that statement, affordable!
 
This is great!

Now it just needs to be provided by a company other than the Spawn of Satan.
And the shows need to be only 24 hours old.
And no commercials.
And in HD.
And I must be able to pause and resume at any time.

Let me know when we get there.
 
The technology they're talking about has been around for years already.
 
I would stop downloading my shows illegally ( relative term in SA ), if:
1) I would be allowed to store the shows on my PC or storage medium of my choice, NOT just on the PVR
2) I would be allowed to view the shows on any networked device
3) Quality. DSTV is simply not as good as a downloaded 720p rip of a TV show
4) I want to watch the show when it is released, not one week, and not six months later
5) It must not cost me more than R700 per month for the facility, with no limits or restrictions. That is what I currently spend to have a quick, easy solution to getting my tv shows ready to watch every night remotely.

Give me that, and the R700 that goes to miscelaneous pirating tools will be yours, DSTV/TopTV/SABC/Whoeverelsecanprovidethis

NetFlix works for me, but unfortunately I have to commit fraud ( a more serious crime than piracy ) in order to pay for the privelage of watching shows..

Yep, I agree. If they would premier series the same time as in the US piracy will go down. We are, however, so far behind. Take as example The Mentalist. We are now seeing season 4. In the US season 5 is almost halfway. This means that we are most likely to see season 5 only in June or around there in 2013, unless they start it immediately after season 4.

Be as it may, I have seen season 4 and 5 so far. So, they better catch up or else I am happy to follow season 5 every Monday morning via the web.

In short, I agree, I will rather follow it on TV if they were not behind with the US. It would be much cheaper for me.
 
Personally, I prefer waiting because the shows can be shown continuously (week after week). If we're too close to the US, they might also have to postpone a week or 2 when the US networks pre-empt shows for some reason (elections, sports, reality w@nker show finales, etc).

I think an example might be Revolution which currently being shown on MNET SERIES. They skipped a week, last week or the week before.
 
They also screen TNA PPVs less than 24 hours after airing in the US. Wish they were as fast with other shows.

One thing I don't like with them being so close to US air dates is that sometimes US networks have a long break over the festive season. New episodes of the current season of Community are only airing in Feb next year and even Revolution will now go on hiatus. :(
