TV series boost from M-Net and DStv

Heh. As anyone who follows the US tv schedules know (No reason why I should follow that, just idle curiosity) - sometimes you have to be very patient.
They do not run on a week by week basis - you might end up waiting 2 weeks for the next episode of Greys Anatomy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413573/episodes?season=9 October 4 to October 18.
Or find that the Mentalist is on Hiatus for 3 months. Oops. What will you watch during Superbowl in the US. Reruns of Night Court?

Lombard explained that the more timely South African TV series broadcasting was made possible by new technology which enables M-Net to receive broadcast quality programming digitally, without having to wait for physical tape deliveries.

What new technology? The internet has been around for decades.

And don't try to convince me those tape deliveries took months, and that's the reason shows only start to air months after they aired in the US.

Make the price right and I will get dstv tomorrow.

give me an option to not pay for other peoples sport viewing and same as above.

I've got packages from China in 3 days via DHL. They can't use that as an excuse. It's all about $$$.

Wait, broadcast companies still USE tapes? :D

Yeah, they're usually pretty far behind with technology because of the immense prices involved in upgrading. Most still use Betacam SP.

Now all we need is decent sound at Ster Kinekor and then I can move away from the great pirate bay. Seriously, I get better sound on a CAM release than in most of their theaters - and they keep on hiking the prices. If I want to gamble, I'll go to the casino.

I would move away from downloading and just PVR the shows....much easier....and I save on bandwidth seeing that I don't have access to ADSL and only have 8ta 10+10Gig.

For a moment there I thought your username was jannievanzyl.

Even with my 2meg line it takes me less than the episode length to download a episode with 4x the quality of DSTV's crap. Can't believe DSTV still broadcasts everything in 4:3. Even my 100MB episodes look better than standard DSTV.

I don't think anything will change. Far more choice on the web you can virtually watch every series being produced the day after it is broadcast on http://eztv.it/ and the big thing is no adverts.

+1 !

downloaded this morning The Walking Dead HD, Homeland HD, etc from that site...
they look nice on my 47'' LED :D

No thanks Mnet...I cannot stand adverts...
PS, we've been downloading for years now...maybe tapes is not the way to get the series?

We've been having it!!!

Essentially if it had not been for folks downloading series then MNet would never have changed.

Power to the .... AAARRRRRRRRRR !!!!

This is great!

Now it just needs to be provided by a company other than the Spawn of Satan.
And the shows need to be only 24 hours old.
And no commercials.
And in HD.
And I must be able to pause and resume at any time.

Let me know when we get there.

24 hours old check
commercial well that is money for them so get real gary
most are on hd
you can pause and resume at anytime

I would not expect someone who hates dstv to know anything though.

I think you need to update your decoder then. As most things are actually in 16:9 and look decent.
