Tweet from Pieter Uys

No throttling he says?? Just tried to download a free 2 -2.5 mb program from c-net and it was downloading at 6.8kb/s haha on full 3G! Now they lying to BB users aswell??

I think what Vodacom didn't realise is, no one on a Blackberry BIS plan actually know how much they use! [We] don't need bandwidth meters or manage bundles, and likewise there's no service from Vodacom/MTN/Cell-C that tells you how much you actually used.

I mean i don't do anything extreme on my BB, but i don't ever know how much i really use either , so 100MB sounded totally insane.

It would help Vodacom to teach their BB customers about their usage, via tools or notifications if it's a problem. Surely Vodacom PR must understand the pleasure of BIS is not having to monitor usage at all. No one on a BB service knows how much they use, so how would you "sell" a cap to them if they can't determine that the cap is in fact "fair" ?

I would also assume if such a cap/throttle plan is implemented, that it implies Vodacom would have to provide a BIS-bandwidth monitoring service to customers too with warnings and all the bells and whistles as you get with regular data bundles. [how else would they know how to manage their usage? ] ? I wasn't aware BIS got all these goodies?

I am still done with vodacom, if it takes an outcry to get their attention they must be useless. I guess if you don't try and rip people off you will never know if you can.

Vodacoms biggest mistake is not realizing the only reason BB is so large is because of their uncapped offering. Without BB is not better than some random cheap ass phone with a data bundle. I also think vodacom is so used to getting away with ripping us off they thought this would sit well just like the other ridiculous pricing does.

pwned

As happy as i am to read his tweet it still won't fix the fact that speeds on 3G are very slow (under 10mbps) and that Vodacom is taking their sweet time to fix it, some business's rely on the fact that BIS and BES can bring them emails at a fast speed and when this doesn't happen then theirs no point, why does BBM have the function to send pictures and songs even though it takes a couple of hours to send them which then drains your battery. VC must wake up now and see that their loyal customers will be lost if they do not provide the service that is necessary. All international carriers run BIS just fine with no complaints and customers PAY for SERVICE

All aside, It's nice to see jannie posting again... I miss you man!

Yeah its great to have him onboard, great person.I give him kak sometimes but he is a big boy and knows how to give kak back:D

Although in this case there wasnt much he could say as the backlash was just too big,i'm sure he immediately went back to peter to have some serious discussions about this, well i'm glad you listened to us jannie.:)

Punish the abusers, anyone with less than 5gb is not an abuser.

Nice turn around vodacom. You shouldnt bleed too many bb customers now.

I wonder whether this U-turn was actually caused by Vodacon's marketing department telling the higher-ups about the ****storm of hate their decision caused; More likely, in my opinion, was Vodacon's legal department telling the higher-ups about the massive breach of the CPA they had just committed, and resulting thousands of potential complaints, the possible 10%-of-their-annual-turnover fine, and the loophole they opened up allowing thousands of Blackberry users to cancel their contracts immediately and without penalty.

I've half followed this whole saga because I use a Nokia and couldn't care less about Blackberry contracts, but the inconsistencies in Vodacon's and Jannie's statistics were shocking. One minute they're claiming "5%/95%", the next its "7.5%/68%", then 100mb is the average usage, then 100mb is the max used by the 95th percentile, then it's the 98th percentile. Either someone dragged these figures out their arse, or they're lies. We'll never know the truth, because Vodacon just doesn't care about consumers enough to tell us the truth, so I'm just glad we've got the CPA and the NCC behind us.

Suck on this Vodacon. .|..

Image is every thing …to drop the ball like that ..heads should roll !!!!!!!!!!

Consumer Activism Prevails !!!!!

Hey Pieter, why don't you put some of your R25million per annum salary and share dividends to good use, and send a BB message or an SMS to all your 66k BIS subscribers with an apology? And while you at it, a press statement will also suffice. Tweets are NOT press statements! Thats just being Cheep!

PS: Kindly let us know your new fair use policy with regards to this latest statement.

Hey Pieter, here's a thought for someone in your position .. why not think twice before you decide to label 95% of your legit customers as abusers for using a product as stipulated in their contracts.
Tweet that you twat!

Where did he say that?

Where did he say that?

His company said that. No one with normal using on a daily bases can go under 100MB's
That was proven in the last 2 days. So in essence 100% of their client base using BB's are abusers.

Unless you don't use BIS at all :D

So...do we have to be thankful for them not adhering to the terms and conditions?
So...do we have to be thankful for them selling us a faulty service, knowing that the current infrastructure can not actually cope with the current usage?
So...do we have to be thankful for them treating us like children?

If you think Uys has come forth out of the goodness of his heart for the consumers or that this was a "marketing snafu" you are deluded.
Uys has come forth because he has been advised by his legal team that VC is in contravention of the CPA and the commisioner has been salivating at an opportunity like this.

LOL boy o boy and to think he earns millions a year . Cell C here i come!!!!!!!!!! well in 3 months anyhow. Got to finish this disgusting vodacom contract first. Cell C need to get in on the act and bring out an advert to drive this home. In the states vodacom would have been torn apart already haha.

The problem with this sort of response from Vodacom is that they firstly haven't actually apologised whatsoever to customers, and secondly that they've set a precedent from a customer's perspective that they are happy to screw over customers until the backlash threatens to have tangible, negative impacts on their bottom line. Even if this wasn't their intention, from a PR perspective, it is the outcome.

This move has severely tarnished their name, from all aspects of their customer base - not just BIS users. If they don't show some additional form of goodwill, combined with an apology, they simply will not rectify this disaster and it will still impact their bottom line.

Interestingly, VOD investors saw this as a positive move and lifted their price nearly 2% on the news. If there is a correlation here between the news and VOD share price, then the current price is not sustainable...
