Two die in horror N2 crash

I still wanna see stats wrt kzn road deaths as it shoots up over holiday season. I would love to see a breakdown of vehicle registrations involved in accidents. I'm willing to bet money it's due to gp plate cars based on schite i've witnessed over the years..

I was in Natal two years ago in September, 90% of the drivers that were driving like morons weren't from GP, especially on the N2, I had to fork out for an insurance claim thanks to some chop in a bakkie with an unsecured load flying down the highway as a massive plank of wood fell off the back and hit my bumper and actually damaged it.
The way people averagely drove down that road was scary, I saw some guys thinking they were on the autobahn weaving in and out of the traffic, some other guys thinking that the yellow line is their own personal lane also speeding, then you get the ones who think 40km/h is the top speed you can go and they won't move over.

You don't need to weave in and out on the autobahn because German drivers are polite and law abiding, and keep right.

Hectic... :erm:

Have seen horrific accidents on the N2 myself, it's something that stays with you forever, especially when seeing a dead body in the road.

RIP

True, that stupid bitch that drove into my wife last year did so by driving over the yellow centre island to turn right at a no right turn intersection. Her insurance covered both hers and our damage.

They might dismiss the vehicle owner at faults claim but they're not gonna get a free pass on claims from victims involved in the accident, not gonna happen.

You will have to narrowly define reckless driving, the polo owner might have though it was safe to overtake, how do you disprove that?

In 1998 I wrote two cars off, mine and the guy I t-boned running a red light (was early in the morning and the rising sun shone directly behind me making the light look green to me), I was clearly at fault in a legal sense. There was no hesitation from my insurance to settle both my claim and the party I wronged.

They still driving like they are on the autobahn on a 1 lane per direction road, so there is no place to "keep right" than the lane everyone else is in...

This is most likely driver error. People often misjudge big trucks as slow moving. So the driver must have thought that there would be enough time to overtake.

This morning alone: A 1 series cut a corner and nearly rammed into my car while I was yielding for traffic. Immediately after, a taxi bypassed a traffic circle and nearly took out my front bumper. Few 100s of metres down the road, an Avanza bypassed traffic while it was waiting for traffic light to turn green, drove against traffic in order to be 1st on the slip road to the freeway.

Then at the next stop, a Hilux went straight through a red traffic light on a busy intersection.

Unfortunately I drive on this highway from time to time. I try and avoid it if I can and definitely don't drive there at night. And usually it's the local people driving like idiots. I have seen countless people just go into the oncoming lane to overtake, with trucks and cars close by. They just don't care, the trucks have to swerve into the yellow lane to not hit them and they just carry on overtaking everybody.

Lots of people also drive in the yellow lane by default, even if there is no car close to them. I have also see plenty of pedestrians get hit becuase they are walking ot standing in the yellow lane. That highway is a death trap.

Sand on oil is an old thing, sand absorbs the oil and you just sweep it away. Google it if it sounds weird ;)
That does sound familiar. I would have expected white river sand though, not what looks like wet earth from side of road. One makes do I guess

No rules of the road are enforced and people drive terribly.
I hate having to travel long distances. You spend more time trying to avoid idiots than anything else.

Wondering who would pay for the Rav4 and Polo passengers' injuries without a RAF as some suggest since the culprit is dead and his insurance would probably not cover it.

There would be 5 more crippled beggars in the streets.

Insurance in SA dono if it works different in France does pay for own damage.

Reason for this is due to the liability to the finance house, and other parties. Even though in cases like drunk driving is seen different as it's intentional, you drank and knew driving drunk is a bad idea. As opposed to overtaking on a blind rise which is stupid, but insurance can't reject your claim for stupidity.

Hope it makes sense :o

As an example: If someone sets their house on fire, on purpose insurance will decline the claim. If however you are having a braai inside your house and add petrol to help it ignite will probably be covered, intentional and deliberate, no. Stupid definitely :D

Always had the opposite feeling due to this line in my policy (Hollard):

9. Specific exclusions
Specific exclusions are in addition to the exclusions set out in the General exclusions section. Certain exclusions
may be cancelled if you chose a benefit that gives you cover for something that would normally be excluded.
We will not pay a claim for any of the benefitsset out in the Cars (Comprehensive cover)section of this policy that
was caused by, or related to any of the following specific exclusions.

...

c. Exposing your car to situations that clearly have a high risk of loss or damage, for example crossing a
flooded road, or making a U-turn on a highway.

Going on the opposite lane to pass when such lane is not clear would typically qualify as such IMHO.

I think that line itself is open to interpretation. As the driver obviously didn't think it was a high risk to overtake. They do highlight the obvious things though like driving into a flooded road on purpose, or making a U-turn on a highway. I'm not too sure about that. However either way they will still have liability to the 3rd party which they need to pay irrespective of their outcome on the claim for their client. They can maybe refuse to pay for his vehicle, they will still be liable to the 3rd party though.

At best a insurer can either
1. Deny their customer claims (not victim) if footage exists of gross negligence prior to an accident. Discovery does this..

2. Boost risk costs.. right now this done in an inverse way.. but it will change. There are more pathetic people on roads than good ones, so I think eg Discovery model isn’t effective (besides it tests behaviors which don’t equate to safe driving, ie it does not evaluate number red lights jumped)
