MAN SHOT IN ATTEMPTED HIJACKING

A 41-year-old man was shot in front of his family during an attempted hijacking in Glen Marais on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

Wimpie Gadney was shot in the chest and died on arrival in hospital, said spokesman Captain Jethro Mtshali.

"Three suspects entered their yard in Glen Marais at around 5pm shortly after the family arrived. The deceased was in the house when he heard his wife screaming and went to investigate."

"A scuffle ensued between him and the three suspects and he was shot. Their two young daughters were in the car with their mother when the suspects arrived," Mtshali said.

The three men fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

M2 shoot-out with R5 and AK47 rifles

A passenger was killed and a truck driver is in a serious condition in hospital following a shoot-out on the M2 West this morning.

The Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Monyai, said the truck was driving from Maputo to City Deep when the incident happened.

He could not confirm if it was a hijacking or a hit. He said the motive for the shooting will be established as the investigation continues.

“As the driver was taking the Ruven Road off-ramp from the M2, a number of men fired shots at the truck. We found a number of R5 and AK47 rifles cartridges at the scene,” said W/O Monyai.

No arrests have been made.

Not that I have much experience with being hijacked, but it stands within reason that you don't do that. You increase the chance of being shot exponentially by doing so.

People react without thinking when their loved ones are in danger, can't blame the guy for going into fight mode when he heard his wife scream. This was another senseless death, instead of hiding in our houses hoping that the danger wont come to our doors neighbors should start looking out for each other.

Sounds like the local papers and talk radio can start to lament this sort of thing. After all they have time to talk about some nut in an X5 and a sjambok.

DA slammed the sjambok attack, but will they slam these attacks or will they just ignore them? Where is the outrage?
