So, my ADSL installation was set for today. And after confirming with the "call center" that the tech would DEFINITELY come install today... he doesn't pitch.

I'm not surprised. Still fcuking annoyed though, considering I took the day off to be here for the stupid c*nt.

Oh well, what else to do but to call the so-called hell desk and b1tch them out tomorrow.

yup, thats typical. dont blast the techie though, its actually a management decision as to who goes where on what day and as we all know, Telkom management SUCKS.
I have taken this up numerous times with our local customer care office and the girls on the desk are just as annoyed as we are, trust me on this. The techies will if you treat them decently, give you their private cell numbers for future callouts. they are embarrassed by Telkom's anti customer policy and we have many many allies in the ranks of techies. trust me on that too.
BTW, I have been waiting for fixed line chaps to come and sort out my land line for about 6 weeks. the bloody line is hanging like a washing line from pole to house and the static is unreal. Seriously, there is only a team of 4 covering the whole of our area. Thanks telkom for slashing your fixed line staff to the bone. The guys are so overworked it's not funny.
So, be nice to the techie, please. Its genuinely not his fault.

Don't worry, I'm not annoyed with the techie himself (despite my words), I'm just annoyed about being fcuked around by Telkom (I know, who isn't?).

It's this kind of thing that kills the little kid that's always positive inside of me. :p

yes Peapod is correct, the technicians are overworked cos there are so few of them.
thisgeeks Location: Ordered ADSL March - Install Date 11 Aug,
guess thats going to have to change. :p

I waited about two months for my ADSL to be installed. Eventually I had to phone head office and all that jazz. The techie eventually came out and did a really good job at installation....only thing was, the line has never worked properly since installation!

It continuosly disconnects, and is very unstable. Ofcourse it would NEVER be Telkom's fault would it?? !!!

I bitched out the hell desk a few minutes ago -- can you believe they answered on the first ring?????!

Anyway, after yelling at the poor woman who answered, she said, but your install code says that the installation date was yesterday. She will have to find out why the tech didn't pitch, etc etc. She will escalate the call, and someone would phone me back shortly. Riiight. I've heard THAT one before. So I guess I'll phone back in an hour or so, cuz Telkom has NEVER phoned me back.

It took 8 weeks from order to installation of my new ADSL - finally got it installed yesterday :D
The poor techie that was sent to us only had 2 days experience installing ADSL... apparently he was reallocated from the ISDN division. Maybe if they rearranging their staff they might finally sort out some of the current backlog in installations

up and running. they pitched nice and early at 9am. nice techies too. i guess all the contracted ones are cool :p

peace

@ thisgeek,
I am in the Boksburg area aswell (Freeway Park/Sunward Park). If you are also Boksburg South, then I can give you the number for the Regional Technical Manager. I was told yesterday that my installation date is 1 Sept. 05, that is 2 weeks after waiting just for the installation date.

PS. Glad to know I am not the ONLY Boksburger here :)

Heh, no, I'm up north - Bardene.

But, I CAN say that I'm now posting this via my ADSL connection(!). Woohoo.

An hour after bitching out the help desk, the tech phoned me. So all now works.

I'm just waiting for him to come back w/ the macaroni crap that I ordered, and for him to replace my single jack with a dual jack so I can at least plug in the microfilter and use my phone :P

Just had a call from the Area Manager. He appologised for not replying to my email yesterday, and although he is more on the maintainance side of things, promised that he will look into why my installation is due to take 5 weeks.

As much as we all hate Telkom, they do still have some very decent and competent employee's that are willing to atleast try to help their customers.

You got a call from an employee?? If telscum find out they gonna fire his @$$

Just phoned Telkom and was told that my 'date of service' is going to be 19'th August. (I ordered DSL384 on 22 July). What are my chances that this is actually going to happen next friday?

I am in Westville, Durban

Very slim, I had towait another extra 2weeks before another techie came.
He also said he had to configure a line that would take hours.
Down my street another techie came to a guy and did it within seconds!
