Funny I am fine with the Apollos on my car. 225/50/17.Avoid Apollo. I got 25000km on a set, and they always felt squirrelly in the wet. Cheap, but not worth it. Replaced with Continental, feels like a different car.
I'm in the same boat. Current brand is Goodyear Efficient Grip. Options I'm considering:Having to fork out on 4 new tyres for my SUV. I know for sure I can't afford top end. So that's easy.
But would appreciate advice on:
1) Any brands that should be avoided at all cost? Why?
2) The best trade-off between quality and price?
Thanks a million.

It not just for tyres. That can be said for anything where one person wants a "community" view/respnse on items or services where there are options and they cannot make up their mind. Many people that reply will give their personal opinion whether good or bad because of their past experiences. That's just the nature of the beast.tldr: If you drive normally and dont over do things, any reputable brand will probably serve you well. If you go cheap expect less performance.
What ive noticed when people talk about tyres:
1. Brand generalization - One bad Dunlop experience = all Dunlops are bad.
2. There are always split opinions - Someone has a good experience and someone else has a bad experience
3. Price is king/Unrealistic expectations - "I got 90000km on my set of BF Goodrich KO2 tyes and ive absolutely thrashed them on 4x4 trails and they have never broken down, but I want to try something unknown and at a lower price and get the same performance. What can I get?"
Here is a tyre test for 4x4 tyres from 2018: https://blobs.generaltire-tyres.com...3eb1a2cb50d/best-sa-all-terrain-tyre-data.pdf
The results here show that the perception of people vs actual performance are 2 different things and more expensive doesnt mean better ie BF Goodrich and Coopers are the 2 most expensive tyres but sit towards lower half of results in terms of pure performance.
Also Dunlops get a lot of hate but the tests show they performed relatively well.
Sure the test only shows tyre performance and doesnt show longevity, but there are so many factors that every brand will have poor performers and good performers.
The 2 decent resources ive found for tyre info is:
1. https://www.tyrereview.com.au/
2. https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/forumdisplay.php/176-Tyre-chat
The 4x4 community is more for all terrain tyres, but if you like brand perception, then it might help.
Decent for Conti are they sport contact 5?Sup Peeps. Would you consider the below as good prices for a 225/40 R18 tyre?

Yes and yes.Decent for Conti are they sport contact 5?
I guess the Michelin's are pilot sport 4s? they pretty much king of the hill.
Yeah unless you tracking the car the conti's are fine, 4S is overkill for day to day I think.Yes and yes.
So the Continentals you believe are a good price here?
Can't really say, because all the entries under the red dots are invisible ...Sup Peeps. Would you consider the below as good prices for a 225/40 R18 tyre?

Looks like a performance vehicle from the profile. What did you have on before, and were you happy with them?Sup Peeps. Would you consider the below as good prices for a 225/40 R18 tyre?

I currently have the Continentals and I love them. Was just curious to see what everyone thinks regarding pricing.Looks like a performance vehicle from the profile. What did you have on before, and were you happy with them?
The reason I ask is because once they are on, you have to drive with them for at least 40,000 kms, so plenty of time to regret your decision. Going cheaper than what you have on currently will probably you unhappy, and no-one wants to be unhappy for 40,000 kms.
On which car?Nexen.
