Tyre Brand Recommendations please

I currently have the Continentals and I love them. Was just curious to see what everyone thinks regarding pricing.
Then go with the Contis then. The Michelins are expensive but worth it (only if you are pushing 250kW plus through an AWD system).

No Goodyear Eagle F1's? As good as Michelin PS4's for significantly cheaper.

Sup Peeps. Would you consider the below as good prices for a 225/40 R18 tyre?

Yep, good prices. Last year I paid about R3500 per tyre for 235/45R18 Continental Premium Contact. The Contis, apart from being decent tyres, are pretty quiet. Prior to that I had Apollo Aspire, at R1500 each; they lasted 15000km to bald, were absolutely rubbish in the wet, and noisy.

Tyre died in rural Kroonstad (potholes) so I had to take what they had, the Bridgestone Potenzas.

No Continentals in the whole town.

Managed to get a “discount” for fitting in two. Let’s see how it goes.

They are great tires but are on the softer side so wear a bit quicker in sunny sa. Great for the rain though.

Seems like you’re in agreement with fellow MKVII owners

About 1000 odd kilometres with the new Bridgestones fitted. Early impressions are favourable. Grips well and is quite good in the wet. I do note a bit of tyre noise at higher speeds, which I didn’t notice before. Fortunately, all I need to counter this is a nice deep house playlist and the music volume up - which I don’t really mind!

Still early days. Let’s see how durable they are over the long run. I predict heavier driving than normal for me in the next few months.

Was recently confinced by the owner of a Continental Tyre branch to go with General Tire brand, it's part of Continental and he uses it on his vehicles as it is technically Continentals.. significantly cheaper as well

I'm running 225/40 18s on my clio. PS4 . They over R3k now each. I don't take note of the mileage as they probably don't last that long. But they utterly amazing. I did 2 trackdays on them and daily them for the last 2 yrs. I reckon I can get a third trackday out of them at probably 25000kms total. I don't mind as I don't put on a. Ton of mileage.

On the tiguan we have the 19s continental suv set that came with the car. We got 64000kms off the original set. So at R4k each. I don't mind the cost considering thr mileage. Second choice was Hancooks

For which car?

Can anyone vouch for Apollo Tyres? I’ve seen a few cars with them while getting my alignment done.

I would go with hancook or nexen. They pretty epic.

Actually pretty good in the wet.
I have them on my Swift and they are better than most tyres in the wet. Squeal easy in the dry but I also got 65 000 KM out of the last pair and I have a heavy foot.

Bought a set of Michelin from Palm Tyre in Maitland

A set of Michelin fitted to wife's Honda Civic gave her 80 000km and lasted 6 years. Worth the bit extra IMO

So I had Michelin primacy for 5yrs and 56k km, mostly urban driving. Was in denial that it needed replacement, thought it still had a year left. But was feeling a bit of vibration at 120 even though balancing and alignment were fine.
Replaced with pilot sport 5, 2k each from Mintys, what a difference that made. Car just glided to 150 and smooth.

Michelin PS5 is superb. Bought my XF with Dunlop (about 40% tread left), and they were noisy as f**k (car also handled worse than my X-Type on Pilot Sport 4, which should definitely not be the case). Had them replaced with Pilot Sport 5 - problem solved. Not putting my life in the hands of tyres that bubble when you just stare at them the wrong way.
