Tyre Woes

Yeah I can agree with that.

Continentals warped on my car within 20 000km.

Achilles have been on for about 25 000km now and not a problem in sight.

+1 for the hankooks!
though the koup is not an aggressively powered sportscar. you should stick to less aggressive thread patterns. this will keep your ride nice and quite, while giving you alot more milage!

i'm trying the toyo's out first time now. must say they do seem firmly planted and super quite on my car!

Good on you trying the Toyo's dude. They are really good tyres IMO.
Where did you get them fitted?

Mintys sandton. 195 45 16s. Think they were 1250 each fitted balanced plus alignment.

I'd go for Hankook Ventus V12 Evo or Achilles 2233. Decent performance at a reasonable price. Achilles was a lot quieter than the V12 though...

Roadstone, Hero anything without a fancy name because they are all the same you just pay for the name.

Rubbish. They are not all the same. Stop dispensing dangerous advice.

They are, I drive what ever is the cheapest and I drive them quite hard. I'm still alive and would recommend them to anyone. You sir are just spreading FUD in order to get people to fit fancy Yamazuki tyres.

Really? The tyres I mentioned are at the cheaper end of the spectrum, but they are tried and tested on cars that your slowpels can only DREAM of matching performance-wise.

Dude, I have done hundreds of thousands of kilometers on Roadstones and other less known makes, many of them way above the legal speed limit, and I have no problems with the way they handle and brake. Currently my Corsa still has the Dunlops on that it came with but those suckers are well worn now (40,000km) so I see some Hero or NonKickAssBrand being fitted soon.

None of which justifies your statement that "they're all the same". They're not. Roadstones may be decent, but some of the lesser known brands are pure ***.

Wow, you can talk the biggest load of rubbish. Ever.

Not all tyres are the same. That is a fact. Now stop giving dangerous advice.

Yup, definitely ALL the same.

Ok, let me start of with the quick and dirty, these tires are pretty terrible. The sidewalls are soft so you have to watch potholes. The tread pattern is not of the noise cancellation design so they are bit like running off road tires on street sounding, except not that bad to be fair.
Grip in the wet is pretty bad, my 1990 Honda Accord automatic will spin it off the line in the wet and it shouldn't really do that.
The only saving grace really should be that they UBER CHEAP to buy and the tire wear at least for my car isn't bad. Sure, if you have stance them with bad toe for alignment I'm sure they would go to **** but so would any tire.

Now here is why I kinda like these tires and would consider buying them again... My car has no horsepower and really isn't that fast and it doesn't weigh all that much... which makes this tire kinda fun. I can break it loose and it's predictable simulating a car with more power.
The noise... I kinda like it. My exhaust is something I purposely made louder too. So not bothered. My wife thinks these tires "sound aggressive" lol So road noise and cabin drone isn't my sore spot, I don't care. Mostly drown it out with mu stereo anyway.

That explains why Rouxenator likes nasty tyres ;)

Although I completely agree with your statement about all tyres not being made equally, using a UK site for tyre reviews for South African buyers doesn't really help anyone.

There idea of a "summer tyre" is pretty much good enough for our winters.
