Uber Eats introduces a new Dine-in feature

Uber Eats has begun rolling out a new feature in some cities which allows users to order their meal through the app and eat it at the restaurant.

TechCrunch reported that this new Dine-in option waives the standard Uber delivery and service fees, and gives restaurants 100% of the tips let by the users in the app.

so, like, er, sitting down and eating at a restaurant?

Except that the chances of the restaurant screwing up your order is significantly reduced.

Sort of like the self-service kiosks at McD's. What a pleasure...

Eventually, AI will determine what you want/need, order your food for you, tip the virtual waiter the amount that it thinks you would want to, and finally, it will "conference call" in your family and friends to this sit down meal, so that you don't have to interact face to face with a single human in this entire process.

What's the point of tipping a restaurant?

The whole point of a tip is to reward good service to a specific person. So how does the restaurant ensure that the tip goes to the waiter who serves you?

I want this AI to have my babies...

“A Dine-in order is when you place an order through the Eats app and you go to the restaurant to collect it,” the company states. “You can then choose to sit in the restaurant to eat your food.”

So drinks are seperate and I wouldn't need to include it when calculating the tip? Hmm

Why does Uber need to be involved at all with people booking tables at restaurants? I don't want the places I like to eat at losing any slice of the pie to Uber, so to speak. ;)

This also misses a fairly large point of eating at restaurants: it's not just about eating food.

People who want nothing but food typically get takeaways or ready-made meals. Restaurants are as much for socialising as they are for eating. Booking a table and meal through UberEats and then eating it the minute you walk through the door sounds utterly awkward and godawful.

You are right, it is also about sitting with your mates and family with your phone in your face.

This type of thing resonates well with this current generation..

This thing would work well with a pick-up-and-go thing, like a Romans Pizza for example, where you typically don't sit down, and they don't deliver.

Not gonna lie

I think this is pretty dumb
If I order something from home it means I want to eat it at home.

Why the hell would I order food from home then get dressed and go out to eat it somewhere else?

Yes but this time they don't tell you to come back in an hour because they're full and you didn't pre-book a table.

Sooooo uber eats just pre-books a table then?? So if you can remember to use uber eats, you can remember to book a bloody table.

Useless feature.

Next they'll be offering a guy with a guitar with your delivery so you can have that live music restaurant feel.

Lolwhut, so you go to any supported restaurant with your mates, just to order food via Uber, and everybody hides behind their cellphones for the duration of the meal...

Yeah right, sounds like a good plan.

You mean like, talk? To actual people? On the phone? With my mouth?

What is this, 1934?
