ATM, I believe Ubuntu is better. KDE4.1 is not really where it should be yet (and still has that stupidly-working menu). Gnome was upgraded, still works and looks as in Hardy.

I have no regrets with kubuntu, about the menu just right click the 'K' button and choose classic style.

You can download Ubuntu and then install KDE which will give you the ability (when you login) to use either Gnome or KDE.
Which is what I did too.
Note: The classic option of the K-menu makes a huge difference for KDE4.1

If you install ubuntu from dvd, can you install KDE off the dvd instead of downloading an update?
AFAIK, yes... Because come to think of it, I've only heard of an "Ubuntu DVD", not a Kubuntu DVD....

BTW: I just did my upgrade and for the first time my Ubuntu has not died a horrible death. Really impressed with how much more stable its becoming. The Network Manager does not support my Neotel device, but a quick compile of the drivers and I'm back online.
For those that have not yet upgraded, do not expect fireworks, just small improvements. The 2 improvements is the awesome 3G wizard under the new Network Manager and the "Create USB Startup Disk" util - this comes in very handy.
Overall its impressive and indicative that the Ubuntu clan are continuously improving the distro.

What router is it? It isn't dependant on the operating system to work so it should work as soon as you plug your cable in/ connect to the network. Can you specify that and if the router works on another pc, etc?

Are you connected to the router via USB?, if so then it's best to use Ethernet. If you are connected via Lan then it could be a network card driver problem.

Its a Microcom ADSL Router, with a Conexant Chipset.
Its connected via Ethernet. My network card works in Ubuntu, when I start it up it shows that im Connected to auto eht0, But i cant seem to get access to the interenet,
I tried to run the sudo pppoeconf command, but i get the following error : "interface eth0 has an MTU of 64 should atleast be 1500, you may have serious connection problems.."
and " Sorry I have scanned 2 interfaces but access Concentrator of your provider did not respond"
Does the above info help ?

Is there any place I could get KDE locally? I just bought a gig of local bandwidth to download linux for the first time and I'd like to be able to test both desktop enviroments.

What you can do then is to install KDE on top of that distro.
"sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop"
It will download approximately 300MB (If I remember correctly).
