Bit surprised that there is no thread for this, given it's being released today.

lol and I spent Friday downloading all the 10.10 iso's for a buddy.

Guess I'll be doing it again today.

Looked on the site, still 10.10 as the current version...

Got the RC on my Netbook - blown away !!!!

Its the fastest flavour I've ever had on my netbook - just did a 200MB dist upgrade this morning and installing the packages was super fast - no disk IO. Have no idea how they got it right but I'm happy.

Originally thought UNITY was a bad rip of the netbook remix - it is not. Its much better. The sidebar actually disappears when you maximise your windows. This is important for limited real-estate like my netbook.

FireFox 4 is so fast!!!!

Have not been this excited about an Ubuntu release in ages.

glad to hear this, a lot of people are waiting for it to fail so that they can sit back with smug looks on their faces and say "told you so"

lol, he is very new to Ubuntu. I just set him up a vm for now and used an apt-on cd to update it for him.
He will be doing a full format and reload soon then I'll set him up to dual boot as he is a gamer but also wants a more stable os for serious work.

He can play with 10.10 for now, I'll just not tell him about 11.04 till he is happy (and I'll just make him another apt-on cd to do the upgrade from).

What's the approximate South African time Natty will be available for download on international?

Also, just wandering: is it better to download Kubuntu and install ubuntu-desktop, or Ubuntu, and then - kubuntu-desktop, if you want to use both? :)

Depends on what color you want the boot up screen

Essentially no difference.
And you can change your boot screen and etc etc, so make that no difference whatsoever. (I've done it both ways over the years).

thanks, guys. @elimentals @froot. ok, ubuntu it will be. for 5 years been using gnome, but a little apprehensive about unity after all the reviews. found kde 4 to be real smooth now, and maybe it's time to stick with it.

no idea about the download availability time yet?

It should be out at around 4pm-ish..... it's usually 9am somewhere in the States when it gets released.

On UNITY vs KDE, well Unity seems to be aimed at low screen real-estate devices and I think it works great at that. Only thing is that you cannot customize it which in a way is a good thing for my laptop but not so good for my desktop.

For my work desktop, will just run the normal Gnome interface.

I think they are doing a last bit of cramming to get everything ready, so I'm expecting it to be later tonight for us in SA. Still not a peep on the official sites:
http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ubuntu.announce
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=13

I read a few articles that suggested (with statements from the Ubuntu devs.) that this release is a bit hurried and some mentioned that they would have done well with a month or so leverage. I'm expecting a lot of devs burning the midnight oil last night trying to get every as well rounded as they can for the release today.

I want to test out Unity and see how well polished it will be, I loathed it on my Netbook (Ubuntu Netbook edition), but who knows, it might just be the next big thing?
