[UK] Jo Cox MP dead after shooting attack

Independence Day 2 is released on the same day as the vote, strangely enough.

Tick, tock boys!

My point was the fact that the 22nd is now going to be a worldwide Memorial Day for Jo Cox (I presume with lots of tv coverage), it will only benefit one side...

Doesn't say much for the Remain argument that they are very obviously emotionally blackmailing a part of the electorate ;).

This has gone far beyond parody. Hopefully the majority see through it.

What's your opinion on Farage's billboard?
As he explained when asked about it on Sky, it had nothing to do with the UK - it was to highlight the failure of Merkel's Europe. It's also supposedly 1 of 6 posters they were going to use, and was only up for a day.

So a Leave billboard that says "we must take back control of our borders" has nothing to do with the UK? Right...

He admitted that everyone in that picture wouldn't even be able to come to the UK legally anyway, so it's hard to see what his point was. Possibly that the EU doesn't care about its borders? Or that once the EU is flooded with migrants (not refugees) that the Europeans will start looking for greener pastures to the west? Who knows...

You do realise that the remain campaign aren't organising the memorial?

You might be out of luck, there's a national groundswell of sympathy. A GoFundMe page for her has raised just short of £1 million in 3 days.

Not sure why Lefties are up in arms about it. In a decade or so, many Syrian refugees will have access to go wherever they like in the EU. Even Corbyn admitted means free movement means no 'upper limit on migration'. That's the entire point.

No doubt there will be prominent Remain campaigners there though. Also, no doubt the pro-EU BBC will be broadcasting it.

Well that is all nice and good but I was referring to people changing their vote. People who are swayed by a death are quite frankly, a bunch of thickos. Her death, as tragic as it is, does not change the debate one bit.

The prominent remainers actually seem to have steered a pretty tight line on it, I haven't heard any of them even casually try and make a causal link yet, they don't really need to though, the papers seem to have gauged the public mood about it and even the Brexit supporting papers have been doing the "pro-EU MP Jo Cox" story which helps remain.

The BBC has actually been quieter about than Sky News, which I found strange as Sky is a Murdoch outlet and he's a Brexiteer.

People are being swayed, not because of the death per se, but more because it's shown the nasty side of the Brexit groups, it was probably hugely unfortunate for Farage that he launched his poster campaign with the idiotic picture of the line of Syrians poster about 2 hours before Cox was shot, it's given a lot of people a shock that quaint old Nigel with the pint and the fag propping up the bar was suddenly seems as this horrible little racist with quasi-Nazi propaganda who's rhetoric had pushed a mental case to kill "wonderful pretty mother of 2 MP that has worked for charities and helped the children in wars zones".

He made a fatal mistake on Thursday of not pulling the poster campaign there and then and apologising and saying they were in bad taste and an error of judgement.

How does your brain comes up with garbage like this?
Unbelievable.

Perhaps your brain should see context (and not take a part out without reading the whole statement), and what I describe is something being currently seen in the tone of many articles and opinion pieces.

Just to help:

Would some examples help your little brain?

EU referendum: JK Rowling accuses Nigel Farage of creating a 'Nazi propaganda' poster

She wrote: "The picture of Nigel Farage standing in front of a poster showing a winding line of Syrian refugees captioned 'Breaking Point' is, as countless people have already pointed out, an almost exact duplicate of propaganda used by the Nazis."

Nigel Farage EU poster reported to police for 'inciting racial hatred' as it's compared to Nazi propaganda

Nigel Farage's EU anti-migrant poster has been reported to police for "inciting racial hatred" after it was compared to Nazi propaganda.

The Ukip leader paraded around Westminster on an open-top bus yesterday with the image of people walking to a refugee camp on the border of Croatia and Slovenia.

He claimed the photo - under the caption BREAKING POINT - showed people who may not be "genuine refugees".

When the Mirror asked him how he could prove that, he replied: "That's the point isn't it."

The poster was roundly condemned by a cross-party coalition of Remain campaigners yesterday, before campaigns were suspended due to the death of Jo Cox.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has been compared to a Nazi propagandist after unveiling a new poster featuring a long line of refugees with a call to “take back our borders.”

Farage revealed the controversial poster, which has also appeared in the local press, at an event in London on Thursday.

The UKIP MEP said EU bureaucrats made a “fundamental error” when they allowed refugees into Europe at the height of the migrant crisis last year. He argues the decision threatens Britain’s security.

However, UKIP’s choice of image has done little to shake off accusations of fascism. The photo bears an uncanny resemblance to a Nazi propaganda film which described Jewish refugees as “parasites.”

Twitter user and legal assistant Brendan Harkin compared the billboard to a 1941 Nazi newsreel which shows the forced march of Bessarabian Jews in Romania.

Another Twitter user sourced the original photo of Syrian refugees and found something intriguing.

It appears the UKIP strapline conveniently blocks out a very noticeable white man in the crowd.

Farage was accused of exploiting Europe’s biggest refugee crisis since World War II for political gain.

“Using the innocent victims of a human tragedy for political propaganda is utterly disgusting. Farage is engaging in the politics of the gutter,” said Green MP Caroline Lucas.

Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Nicola Sturgeon described the poster as “disgusting,” while US-British playwright Bonnie Greer tweeted a photo of the billboard alongside a quote from Nazi military leader Hermann Goring.

“All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked. Works the same way in any country.”

You might not quite understand, but what I posted was my observations of local press coverage, and hearing what people are saying locally.

I thought it might be useful to the members here with the ability to understand what is observation and commentary, I suppose a limited intellect might make that more difficult to understand...

Nigel Farage is faraway from being a quazi nazi.
And he is not responsible for the death of Jo Cox.
And if it was Farage that was killed by some anti Brexit lunatic, I know what your response would be.
"Ha ha! That quazi nazi got what he deserved! He dug his own grave!"
But that's how your mind works - unbalanced and narrow-minded.
Maybe you shouldn't let the media do the thinking for you.

I see you still don't understand the concept of a commentary...

Has the media commented on how this was an actual picture of an actual situation which is a real concern for all EU citizens or have they opted to only comment on how it looks similar to a nazi pic from way back when?

It sounds like they're trying to Godwin Farage more than anything else, but admittedly I haven't followed this particular thread in the press so I don't know.

The only time I've seen that comment made was when they carried Farage's rebuttal, other than that not really. I'm presuming the spectre of Jo Cox hanging over the issue is keeping the reporting pretty much against Farage's poster campaign.

I actually heard a comment last night that UKIP have decided to cancel the poster campaign altogether (there were supposed to be 6? separate posters unveiled iirc) but I haven't seen any mention of that anywhere in the press.
