Unblocking network ports on the ont box from openserver

Care to explain a bit more? What are you trying to achieve?

My guess is they mean port forwarding and they have Openserve Web Connect so the all in one ONT.

Yes that is correct

Web Connect is a very restrictive service meant for low-cost access.

Web Connect doesn't even use any of the IP pools of ISP's and does not support IPv6 or even a public IPv4 address. You ISP will likely show Openserve, Telkom or SAIX. The ONT is also locked and does not allow access.

I would suggest switching to the Fibre Connect service if you want full access like a public IP, ipv6 and port forwarding.

Have a friend on web connect via Telkom

So he can’t change his WiFi name or password? And more importantly can he not use the Ethernet ports on the ONT ?

As when we stream via parsec his connection drops all the time and saw that it’s the Wi-Fi which drops has a 30mb connection so fine for 1080p

I did notice his ping is 24ms to Durban meaning his connection goes to JHB and back

Wish Telkom was more transparent with the technical aspects of web connect as I would have steered him to fibre connect

Yes it's because of their carrier grade nat for the Web Connect service. It's via JHB and CPT only.

Ahh I see for his use case should he okay unfortunately stuck in a 12 month contract so he can’t move

Does the Ethernet work on Openserve web connect or any way to enable it ?

It does. I believe only 1 of the ports are enabled. The ISP can see what port number is enabled on the portal. Usually Port 3
