The reason is that it is so high is that the WiMax is like a diginet line. Guarenteed of 2mbps all the time, not like ADSL where it is up and down.

Current Neotel 2.4 mbps, you only get 300kbps anyway

Could have been worse. The could have broken out the classic..."imminent" :)

I for one would be keen to drop my Prime Unlimited for something more stable like that. Just wish they would increase the upload on the prime and then it would be a much better service. pity they dont take notice of little things like that.
 
Uncapped, 4 meg, FIXED LINE, R800 or less... Thats the words I want to hear...

R3k for 2mbit both ways is not all that bad, I have had a quote of R6k for a 2mbit 802.11 wireless link between 2 of our branches so getting 2 of these might b the same price but sure it will give me a better connection, u will def not get a 2mbit Diginet 4 R3k either.

I use Telscum's WiMax 512k at home and it is very stable with god latency so I have no issues with WiMax + who knows maybe Neotel surprises us and comes in at a much lower rate :) One can only hope :-/
 
R3000 for a guaranteed 2Mbps service isn't bad considering you'd be paying over R40k for anything else that's guaranteed at 2Mbps and it's symmetrical which means 2Mbps down and up which is great for business, hosting your own webpage, remote email access, remote desktop access, not so great for home users who typically don't upload as much as they download. Our current stats for the month at the office is 8gig down and 26gig up cause we host applications for some of our clients and then there's our users that access their emails remotely
 
All these people rushing to sign up and then a week later, those users are posting like mad in the Neotel section biatching and moaning about how their service doesn't work...

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm looking so forward to this... :rolleyes:
 
If it is indeed symmetrical it is a step in the right direction. But for R3000 - hell no.
 
I'm giving Wimax about 9-12 months after the official launch of their uncapped Wimax service to:

a) either up the price
b) put in some form of shaping/limitation (like the rolling gb's from IS uncapped express)
c) blame the users for downloading too much (they expect 15gb to be the max an average user would download??? on a 2mb uncapped connection, 15gb is about 3 days worth of YouTube videos alone....)
d) Discontinue new signups
e) Start slowing down so much it crawls. Ping time out's, websites not loading etc.
f) Customers blamed for everything
 
So what is the contention ratio going to be like on this 2Megabit per second near symmetrical? What real world speeds would we get for local connections?

1:5 for local?
1:20 for JINX?
1:30 for international?

I would love to know these figures then we can speculate what the real world through put would be when we say downloading from LOCAL (neotel network sites) vs Inter exchange (JINX) vs International/Midrand?
Transparency is key here.
 
Is this "uncapped" as in "bandwidth usage not limited but you pay for all GB over the arbitrary limit" ... or as in "use all you like for a fixed price"? Hard to tell these days after Telkom decided to redefine the word...

it is uncapped aka no limits to your usage , dont pay extra if you go over a certain amount of bandwidth
 
3K is not actually bad if this product performs IMO. The proof is in the pudding, I'm willing to be a guinea pig... pity I'm in the Eastern Cape.
 
Hello

This is a corporate offering,not home user offering.Therefore wimax availability is limited to certain areas where most businesses are situated,CBD etc etc...For home user connections make use of the CDMA offers such as neotel prime etc etc...The price for the wimax 5Meg package comes in at R3000 is because its a non shaped,low contention service as compared to our ADSL counterparts...Business ADSL from MWEB will set you back R3000 anyway while still dealing with the contentions on ADSL.
