Uncapped ADSL offerings: pricing comparison

Will Telkom / TelkomSA / TelkomInternet ever meet any of these competitors? R64.76/GB is way too expensive and their "uncapped" refers only to "local" internet bandwidth - how many servers are local in the true sense apart from banks and themselves? Not even GMail is local and most servers are international anyway. Pensioners simply cannot afford these new profit-making enterprizes. I want 4MB line speed and at least 20GB bandwidth for what I am presently paying.

Why can't telkom get rid of 384K and 512K it's just an upgrade to dial up and certainly not broadband! We want uncapped unshaped 4MB ADSL for R500 just like most of the world has for entry level internet.

YEAH! ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Now how do we PRESSURIZE Hellkom to DO this? Can I quote you on Facebook? "We want uncapped unshaped 4MB ADSL for R500 just like most of the world has for entry-level internet". YEAH MAN, ABSOLUTELY!!

I am happy for the people on Digichilli ans Screamer that gets good speed. That was not my experience at all. When I joined them at launch.

SAOL just worked for me since the moment I put in my details in my router. Have not had an issue since plus it is completely unshapped. That alone makes it fully worthwhile and the reason I am happy to pay them.

Besides, they save me R376 a month and I can download now more. This to me is worth the R50 they are more expensive that Digichilli.

You are paying Digichilli R3000 a month for a 1Mb line?!?
Screamer (R1499), Axxess and OpenWeb are all cheaper so you need to shop around a bit.

It's a bit hard to join Screamer if they not taking any more people

Ummm yes. From what is being said elsewhere on this forum this looks suspiciously like a DigiChilli post.;)

What do you mean Adventurer?

If you insist on typing everything out by hand, please remember the

Hmmm wonder when afrihost will launch uncapped and what webafricas new offerings are going to be like come March next year

Well, I certainly do not condone "cheap" broadband that is lacking in "quality" in any respect whatsoever. If you have proof of this claim that some ISPs quality is poor, please let me have the details and I will follow this up with ICASA.

The also missed the part where most other providers also offer 4MB uncapped with static IPs for around R2500

But that's insane! R2500 equates to £156.25 (at £1.00 equals R16.00) and that is almost 10 times more expensive than what the most expensive package in the UK costs. Why are we being raped blind-fold?

One can just shake your head and ask when something good will happen. I'm thinking it would still be cheaper to visit the South Korea and use the internet there than pay thousands of rands to get unlimited internet here.

At today's Pound/Rand exchange rate of just over R12.00 to the Pound, it makes the insanity even worse - R2500 now equates to £208, which is almost 12 times MORE expensive than the most expensive package in the UK. Come on now, not everyone earns R50,000 a month like the new yuppies do and can afford it. Some of us are younger than 60 but pensioners due to the ANC government retrenching us. So remember this before the temptation to criticise overtakes you.

I've been using the uncapped IS Express options from Axxess for a few months now. In terms of performance their 1024kbps offering seems more stable and reliable for business purposes. My 384kbps personal account suffers BADLY during the 8am to 8pm window where access is almost non-existent.

Interesting to note that their customer portal under reports my usage.

I've been considering trying out the Screamer service as it looks competitive, however after reading the comments in this post, I think I'll be sticking with Axxess.

Oh one note, Axxess/IS Express is a waste of time if you are wanting to do Xbox LIVE gaming, the local interconnect seems to be congested so you end up in laggy international games instead.

Oh and when are the local providers going to get clever and bundle WiFi access point bandwith with their uncapped high-end accounts? Yeah I know some offer access options but they are ridiculously expensive.

I'd like to be able to visit a Mugg 'n Bean, airport, etc. and simple just have bandwidth for remote access, etc. Just a good stable connection and no ridiculous per MB or GB pricing.

Cybersmart has unofficial uncapped 384k at R512 incl. line rental.
Has anybody ever used this.
I am planning to install ADSL at the end of the month.
My choice is between Cybersmart and SAOL.

Got informed today (01/01/2010) that the Cybersmart offer is to be faced out, and that it would cost at least R699 per month in future.

Very interesting, as it was exactly 1 month in use.

ISP's would make u pay, anyway they can!
