Uncapped local ADSL trial to end

Is this a joke?

What about the statement made a week or so ago saying there wasn't a plan to cancel uncapped local?!

in MWEB's words, they're not cancelling uncapped local as you can browse/download as much as you want, you'll now just get charged for it.

I suspect a couple users will get a fat bill come the end of May.

on top of that, all current subscribers are stuck with their MWEB account for May and will all be subject to the crappy 10 gb local cap since they require a 30 day notice period for cancellations.

couldn't they have made such information available in time for customers to decide whether or not they'd like to stick with this service? very sneaky...
 
Very sneaky indeed. I think it's BS that they stated that they would continue giving out uncapped local only at no additional cost. Now they are going back on their word?? If only they had contracts where they stated uncapped local only at no additional cost...

I sense people will be dropping MWEB as their ISP now, and perhaps going back to Openweb. Ah well, if it's too good to be true it usually is when it comes to telecoms in SA. This just shows us that they don't care about us consumers and only care about shareholders.

People say bring on Seacom, but I think that this won't have any effect until at least the end of the year. They will say they keeping prices high to recover costs of the cable or some crap.

During the MWEB Trial programme, it emerged that some 95% of MWEB customers were only using about 2GB of free local-only ADSL bandwidth per month,” said MWEB.

“MWEB will therefore introduce a 10 GB ADSL data restriction on local-only data for all ADSL customers regardless of the size of their contract.”

Got this email from MWEB last night:

Dear MWEB Member
Since the 1st of February 2008, we’ve given all MWEB ADSL customers access to unlimited FREE Local-only ADSL data at no additional cost.

Local-only ADSL data allows you to enjoy continued access to locally-hosted websites and content in South Africa, after you have used up your monthly standard ADSL cap.

As from the 1st of May 2009, you will receive 10GB of FREE Local-only ADSL data per month. Any usage thereafter will be charged at 3c per megabyte. This is not a capped service and we will notify you once you’ve used your FREE allocation.

Should you have any further queries in this regard, please contact us.

I will be cancelling, Mweb's prices is hardly cost effective & my local bandwidth could be purchased elsewhere. If they were clever they would have put the limit to 50gigs minimum they would have retained 5% of their customers according to them.

As far as I see it one can send the cancellation letter any time today, and come the 1st of May this all end for customers & Mweb. No need to mention Mweb's packages in the new any more as they are clearly bland.....

And of course what is the reason for the change in service Mweb ???????
 
This is the last straw. I have been battling with them for at least six months now to get one of their clients's telephone lines upgraded to adsl, and every time they mess up the order. :mad:

Time to vote with my wallet and everyone else's that I come in contact with that also wants ADSL.

By the way, less than a month ago they said this:

They are starting to push Telkom out of the way where the pole position in incompetence is concerned.
