Well going by the rates specified here http://mybroadband.co.za/news/ADSL/4165.html it would be 1 x R40 + 10 x R10 = R 140.

This is on the assumption that the entire local allocation is used up. Normally most users dont use up their full quotas, thus it costs the ISP less as they only pay for the actual Gigs used.

If that is pro-rate (ie 1 day), that's fine. If they nailed you for the whole month, I would throw my toys...

Well, when I joined, I joined halfway through the month. Was only charged for half, but they gave me a whole months bandwidth...

Was kinda hoping things would work the same when I left:confused:

This could have been a joining bonus/special of some sort though.

Why the hell would you want to be "in line with the rest of the market"... VERY competitive guys. Sigh, what can you expect.
 
The 5% of their customers are heavy-bandwidth users.... often exceeding 500GB a month... but all this does is to level out the 95% that doesn't exceed 2GB :)

Mweb is going to lose a lot of business over this.
 
Really crap decision, I also planned to sign up with them. Funny they change this now so close to June?

5% hopefully. Losers. I would have been happy if they hardcapped me @100Gb. That is still good value.:confused:

I'm confused. Everyone says Telkom wholsesale is R10/gb for local, yet as far as I was aware, like any diginet line where you pay for the speed, i.e. 64k, 128k, 1mb, 10mb, etc, you only pay for the speed and it's a fixed rate.
If you push the line to full capacity for the entire month, you still pay the fixed price.
I'm positive that's how mweb/IS/saix/mtn/vodacom etc pay for their bandwidth.
Why are the end users getting screwed with per gb pricing?

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

isn't this just with a product like IPConnect, where you pay for the capacity and not the usage?

You are right & wrong ... ISPs can choose to do it either way;

a) Wholesale Traffic Resell - pay per Gig for all traffic used in an aggregated manner (e.g. as used by MWEB)

b) IPConnect (IPC) - Get large pipe into the ADSL network and pay a fixed price per month for a maximum aggregate speed (e.g. as used by IS)

No wonder South African internet users are so fed-up with this industry. Big business are smoking us for every last cent, Icasa can't seem to regulate their own arses, Guvmint is too inept to manage anything else than lining their own pockets. Worse is we know this ain't gonna change anytime soon, despite the prophecy of the coming of the Neo-one.

We need a revolution!

Grrr mweb. Ive payed for this freaking month(and havent got round to cancelling yet) :angry:
 
I'm still confused... cos now when I check my Mweb usage it tells me "You have used 6.42 GB of 30 GB local only cap" (I had a 3 GB Mweb international account).

Does this mean they ARE in fact giving 10 times the international?

Doesn't matter really, cos I already sent my cancellation form.

But just shows you how screwed up they are with their announcements.
