Uncapped mobile broadband: R199/month

Yeah,a lucid dream for us internet loving types :D

Although I cant help but feel it will be severely shaped for second and third priority tasks.

Cavedog we're all waiting for your feedback.

:D

I assume that this won't work in a tablet either, decisions decisions decisions!

Similar to Afrihost’s MTN-based mobile broadband service, LucidView’s cellphone data plan is month-to-month.

Meaning it is on the MTN network, so why can't I use their APN, like "lucid" or something then get this deal on my current MTN contract with Uncapped internet for an additional R199?

Afrihost currently offers the use of their APN on the MTN network without using a different sim...

Existing numbers may then be ported to this new SIM card.

Also I take this is prepaid only. Afrihost only allows for contracts.

Yes, it's time for prepaid guys to benefit

We need DoC or ICASA to step in and determine what the minimum usage on a medium constitutes uncapped as right now u can make an uncapped 1kbps after 100MB product and sell mass. They did this for the term 'broadband' they need to do this for uncapped asap

They do not throttle or shape you. Read the article.

The telecoms market in SA have put a spin on the term "UNCAPPED" - just about every offering available comes with T & C
Advertising Standards authority should sort out this false advertising
Uncapped is Uncapped and nothing else

And when service is launched at R3k/pm we'll be biatching again. At least there's no (apparent) limit. R199 is dirt cheap as well.

Indeed considering it comes with R50 preloaded airtime.... So basically it R149 for the data part. I can't wait to test it out. I really like the fact that you could choose the sim size you wanted.

If its like a top up deal it would be a really good offering. Fixed amout for data and voice.

I took Telkom to the ASA for the term 'Unlimitted' and they were forced to remove the term from all advertising. Uncapped however is not false advertising as the service never gets capped. Capped means it reaches an end i.e. the service is stopped. This never happens. What they do do is throttle it to a point where its useless but still working and thus technically not capped.

A play with words, but yes I agree, they should be forced to stop this misleading advertising and be forced to spell it out in terms of MAX data you will be able to download. Clear concise and to the point.

I'm on prepaid! Just prefer not having surprise bills and being tied to a 24 Month contract is just not Savvy! So I am glad to see this come around but I'm sure they can just give us the APN! Then it's as simple as pay, register number and use APN, No rica nonsense either this way...

This will be a sweet deal for my new Note 3, which obviously will be super hungry for Data!!

I highly doubt one would be able to pull 30, 60, 80+GB on this package.

It's in no way feasible. 8ta being the cheapest now, is offering 20GB for R199 for select customers, I reckon their profit is about R 50 to R80.

They can shove it, I don't want unlimited usage.

Give me a generous softcap, that is all I need. I am quite sure I speak for the majority of internet users.

Yeah, unlimited is not what people need. It's like offering someone infinity - you can never deliver it.

I pefer a fixed amount being offered plus a speed guarantee.

These folks have 4Mbps of bandwidth for all their customers, which is fine if you're running a 10 man internet cafe, but not fine if you're offering internet to thousands.

They must also regulate when a broadband product no longer qualifies as a broadband product per the DoC definitions, i.e. don't advertise it as uncapped broadband, rather uncapped data.

*the uncapped wording still burns my arse!

There is no set amount in the Debit Order form you must sign and fax back to these people, fishy. Dont want a surprise bill at the end of the month.
