I’m in the process in deciding what broadband option to get at home. Currently for my needs which will be personal and business related there seems to be only one option. The business uncapped solution from IS.

Speed and ping times is not a big issue but I can’t be subjected to any caps or throttling. A lot of traffic will be generated by video/audio/data/torrent downloads as well as remote/VPN connections and email. So the 512 uncapped solution should be ok.

It looks like Neotel is finally making progress but I’m not too sure about their latest consumer offering as tested in a recent article. It says it will cost R499 for uncapped but only for a trail period until the service goes official during May. Unless the cap on local and international is 30Gb or more and the traffic unshaped I won’t consider it. The other problem is the USB only connection. There must be a Ethernet router option. I’m guessing we will only or hopefully see true unshaped/uncapped offering next year when the new submarine cable(s) arrive.

So my basic question is, who out there is using the IS 512 uncapped solution at home and how do you rate it?

Unlike the useless express accounts has anyone struck a deal or negotiated the use of their own router with the business package. I would like to use a Netgear WNR854T router but if it’s not possible so be it.
