Who is currently offering the cheapest uncapped/unshaped ADSL? Only getting a 384 line from telkom till increase time

What do you intend to do with your unshaped & uncapped connection? Downloads / Gaming?

So far I've had a pretty good experience with my Mweb shaped uncapped 384kbps connection with regards to download speeds (from Mweb news servers and general HTTP stuff), as well as latencies on game servers after hours.
Mweb isn't the cheapest uncapped either.

I want to go unshaped for P2P and Gaming, I was with mweb and they shaped me horribly, but yeah R700 for a unshaped 384 is tough when for R300 more you can get a shaped 4mb line.

I have a unshaped, uncapped 384 line with MWeb, and I couldn't be happier. Downloading p2p at a constant 35kb. Looks like a flat line 24/7.

You can always go for something like the WebAfrica ADSL bundle (cap+line rental included) that gives you up to 10Mbps with 10GB cap for R599 (R399 for first 3 months) with 30 day cancellation period,
in combination with like an Axxess/OpenWeb R99/month uncapped account that runs at 384kbps.

I absolutely love the WebAfrica FreeZone stuff :D

If you're not in Cape Town region, where you'll be using JINX (Johannesburg Internet Exchange), then Web Africa might not be the best choice, since most of their servers are in Cape Town + they're currently not peering locally with Mweb via JINX, which means that the packets will go via London - leaving you with horrible latencies.

OpenWebs R99 option is openbrowse isnt it, which is purely for browsing my whole point here is no shaping. The 10MBS ADSL idea isnt bad but you're still paying a lot of money per GB - plus you could eat 10 GB's in 2.5 hours on that line. Well maybe not that fast but close.

Have you compared the difference between the shaped one?

How much extra is the unshaped one? I am currently on MWEB 384 shaped.

I've had the unshaped for two months before I got fed up with the pathetic download speeds during peak hours. Used to download at 30-35kb outside peak hours, and about 10-15kb during peak. But now with unshaped, it stays at the theoretical max. ie. 35kb.

Price is more than double, from R219 to R499, but than again I'm pulling 55-60GB per month. Not to bad for a 384 line.....

I was pulling that on my 384kbps line with Openweb's gold package at R245 a month - you're getting ripped!

I'm doing significantly more than that with my Mweb 384 shaped uncapped account, don't see the the point of paying lots more if you use so little data.

I'm doing about 30GB/month on Mweb 384kbps shaped uncapped account, and that's without even trying to download as much as I can.

If you're working full time, then I don't really see the point in an unshaped 384kbps account, because the differences after hours are minimal on a 384kbps account - compared to the differences between a shaped and unshaped 4Mbps accounts.
I've always downloaded my stuff via torrents, but that was so heavily shaped, that I just moved to news servers, instead of upgrading my Internet account to unshaped.

I can also tell you that it really sux to browse at 384kbps if you're used to sharing a 4Mbps (or even 1Mbps) connection!

So would it be possible to download 50gig a month on mwebs 384 uncapped/shaped account as Pada has indicated.

I managed 67GB on my mweb 384 uncapped/shaped account in december.

@abcpt.Not bad at all.I'm assuming you were logged in 24/7 to get that amount of data?

No, I wasn't. Did about 6GB on Afrihost as well, as I have some torrents I am trying to finish downloading, but mweb is terrible for torrents. The rest of the time I was downloading pretty much non stop, without complaints from Mweb, so, thank you Mweb!
The mweb news server has been performing pretty well in Cape Town lately.

Ok so who is the best for torrents.Afrihost or Openweb Gold?
