I am looking for a new phone, but it must be under R2000.00. Nothing fancy.

The thing is it will be work phone so if it gets stolen or dropped I won't have a heart attack.

What I have looked at so far is.

Prestigio 4.0" Quad-Core MultiPhone PAP5400DUO 3G + Wifi Dual Sim R1,699

Its a great price but the make scares me, I have no clue what to expect from it

gobii 4.5'' Smartphone IVP Black + 200MB x 12 months free data R1,699

Cheap + data Great deal

Hisense U939 R999.99

Hisense U970 Infinity
R1999.00

Really leaning towards the Hisense phones great specs and prices

..

I just want to know if any of you have experience with one of the phones ? It would make life easier

Prices are from http://www.kalahari.com/Electronics/N-d8mZ1z141o6

If you want a major brand name you could go for the Moto E - R1825 it's dual core though which is not necessarily worse if its a good cpu and performace is good. It will surely have more firmware support now and in the near future, running the newest Android version. Also has 1980mAh battery which should give good battery life in this type of device.

Otherwise the Hisense U970

Gobii IVP, very happy. I don't use the Cell C data though as I'm using MTN & Telkom Mobile simm's.

Thanks so far guys. Really the only think it should do is have a good battery and whatsapp.... With some internet browsing for when I need info

My Gobii goes about 30hrs before dropping below 50% battery. I've had it almost 3 mths now and can't think of anything I don't like other than the flip case & screen protector which is matter of personal choice. I'm not a power user though.

No problems with typing on the 4.5" screen (I've got big hands), nice clear speakerphone and it fits comfortably in my shirt pocket.

Thanks man I think you have sold me :) and I can go with the cellc data

Go test out the HiSense phones at Mweb, Game, Makro and Dion Wired. The are right up there with the S4 mini at a fraction of the price.

The U970 seems like the best option by miles.

What about the Zest T1... yes its R2,499 but it does come with a ton of data. Although its seems Afrihost has run out of stock at the moment.

I would hope it's better than a S4 Mini, I have one and it sucks! It's the worst phone i've ever owned.
Batterylife sucks thing keeps dieing in the middle of the night on idle with no data on! It's slow and build quality is worse than any chinese cheapo android phone. And let's not even talk about Samsung's POS skin on top of android geez I hate it so much!

I have the U980, love the size, 5.5 inch, and so far it has behaved impeccably. Only downside is likely to be no Android upgrades, unless Hisense cares about the South African market?

Have you checked the Xda Developers forum for custom firmware?
