Under Siege

RPM

I hope you are proud of your achievements! Many have tried ... but you are one of a very select few to have had an impact to date!

And well done all the other MyADSL "staff" ... mods etc!

Uluti Continua!

Hi Harth

I wish I could take credit, but without the MyADSL community (ie all you guys!) I would have been just another guy listening to the 0800 375 375 music. The continual forum activity, initiatives launched from here, member growth and information sharing make us a significant player in the broadband arena.

Thanks to all our mods, members and even casual visitors who made this place what it is today. Consumer action is alive and well, and I feel that this is only the beginning!

Regards,

RPM

Good work RPM :)...this is good to hear.

I wonder how they know industry executives browse this website?...I bet the board wouldn't be too happy to know that their 'head-honcho' was browsing websites, albeit an informative one in his job hours :p

This is a great article :-)

Best of all it reflects all the hard work of MyADSL members on the original complaint against Telkomonopoly to ICASA (I only read through the original thread - so many great posts ;)), all the follow-ups & strugling that RPM had getting progress reports & action from ICASA (it's a process & procedure that ICASA have to follow & waiting for responses from Telkomonopoly), and all the forumites that submitted comments to ICASA at very short notice, as well as all the many posts on MyADSL which have made this possible.

So, to all forumites give yourselves a round of applause, and special thanks to RPM & the MyADSL team as a whole :). I have high hopes that the upcoming ICASA Public Hearings on Telkomonopoly's ADSL will knock $izwe's golden socks off :D.

Also, maybe I am personally too proud of all the MyADSL forumites, but I think the government talk about declaring SAT3 an essential service, would never have happened if it weren't for your efforts. Also, I think the collective pressure exerted did speed up the DoC's plans to legalise both VoIP and the SNO.

SA Telecomms has changed a lot for the better in the last 2 years, and I think MyADSL has been a major catalyst in these changes.

Our job is an ongoing one, and MyADSL will always be a consumer force that all Broadband Service Providers cannot ignore.

It is clear that MyADSL is also a driving force for other (non-broadband) consumer telecomms issues - such as asserting the rights of all South Africans to have access to the Internet especially dialup - so $izwe talking about increasing local call costs yet again underscores that we need to be all the more vigillent & united in keeping the pressure on ICASA, DoC and government in general to get $izwe & Telkomonopoly to behave responsibly & become a company that benefits South Africa instead of throwing us back in time.

Corporate Policy

and the funny thing is Telkom brings this upon themselves...

I cant wait to see the day Telkom is cut to size... and it will be by people walking over to a new provider!

I asked Sonia Labuschagne (Product Manager for Telkom ADSL) if they were prepared to entertain open discussion on ADSL, with for instance members like us, last year.
She was keen, but after two weeks or so I had to mail her to ask what was happening. Of course the reply was, sorry this is not our "Corporate Policy".
Well that is their choice. Personally I think it is a load of Baloney.
Telkom has continuously tried to ignore our existence and this "silent diplomacy" is not going to work.

The day I can change the service provider for my telephone, I will do so out of principle.

Good to see MyADSL mentioned in the Financual Mail - now we need something like the Sunday Times - Wonder how much everyone in the forum would have to contrabute for a full page colour add?

Oh ja - why does Telkom need a cable up the east coast? To make things cheaper - wake me up when that happens - with a necromancer (i think i see a new sig)

Howzat! :D

Please tell me if it is too invasive!

The quality and high level of debate on the website, MyADSL.co.za, is unlike any consumer lobby group to have emerged in SA. The site is read by a number of industry executives.

I think this is an excellent idea... with everyone contributing a small amount it wouldn't cost much at all.

And the timing couldn't be better to raise awareness for the public hearings and to place some more pressure on both Telkom and Icasa to take the public hearings seriously.

Did anyone see the open letter to the head of landrover sa in the (i think it was) cape times recently - he paid for a half page ad!

Yup,

he complained about service on his Range Rover I think.

Few days later, Hyundai posted a follow up ad in same newspaper, also half page!!

They offered him one of their 4x4's while he waits for his to be fixed!!

aaah marketing!! cruel game, I say
