Undo send in Gmail

5 seconds is a bit short. I think maybe a minute?

They could just make it customizable. Everything you want to send goes into a queue and automatically gets sent after a preset time. You can either undo, or force it to send immediately if it's urgent.

I'd be pretty pissed off if my mail wasn't in it's recipients mailbox in less than 2 or 3 minutes.

Great Japanese idea. Some newer Sharp keitai (Japanese mobile phones) also have a voice mail - voice slow down function to help you make out what the other person is saying in his message.

The Google idea would work also to recall messages sent to other Gmail members. That should be possible, they could pull back unread messages from other peoples' mailboxes.

Ooh, the article mentions Japan. Time to spew some irrelevant comment about Japan:

Well, the Japanese have these little aesthetic subtleties nailed down. They're ahead of us.
My example was another example, after this one, how they come up with very useful features no-one here
has thought of. I for one would love a voicemail slow down message and visual voice mail won't
cut it if a foreign language is used.

Unread does not mean you haven't seen the message.

Well unread as in 'not read yet' - I dunno, does Gmail give an auto -preview of messages? Unread as in user not logged in and not able to see the first preview sentence of the email, or maybe can see it. So if you send an email to another Gmail user by mistake, you can recall it. :)
