University Protests 2016

Well ****ing done! You and all your supporters should be locked up for inciting violence and trampling on the rights of students who wanted to study.

They didn't pitch up for a fight they pitched up as arsonists. Bloody terrorists the lot of you.

I supported #feesmustfall last year, but this crap needs to be stopped, people need to go to jail.

Same here, I agree that not only the rich should be able to study.
This?
This is a bunch of criminals and their supporters.

This has nothing to do with fees, outsourcing or wtf ever they are hiding behind.
This is terrorism.

It will take one p-klap from a big rugby player and that idiot will play no further part than whining from the sidelines. All grootbek until someone hits back.

Violence is the only thing these cowards understand. The miners at Marikana have been very quiet lately.

Yep, very happy to assault women though, the moment a man stands up, run as fast as the legs can carry and cry victim and racist

It is a massive character flaw in these people. Strong individuals take responsibility for their own success and don't lash out and destroy and blame others for their failures.

I have said it before - I never got a tertiary education because we couldn't afford it - yet I made a success of myself without destroying any significant historical paintings and statues.

That is why I laugh when I hear white priveledge. I earned R1700 a month in my first job, R500 of that went to rent and I ate 1 meal a day for a year. Would like to see these fat sons and daughters of politicians and tenderpreneurs do that.

I think the majority of students knows this is all BS, which it gives me hope. This is 10% extremists seeking attention and 90% media giving it to them.

Maybe the dark ages Europe were onto something, sending their radical youngsters off to go die somewhere in a desert.

Protests see Varsity Cup matches postponed

Cape Town - The FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International Board has taken a decision to postpone all fixtures for Monday, February 29 to allow universities across the country the opportunity to address various challenges faced at their respective campuses.

“We do not condone any form of violence, discrimination or disruptive behaviour. The safety of students, players and spectators is of immense priority to us. The current challenges facing universities and students are a concern. We have compassion and respect for the situation and hope that amicable solutions can be reached with all parties,” said Varsity Cup CEO, Duitser Bosman.

“Varsity Cup is South Africa’s premier inter-varsity rugby competition and over its nine year history entertained and brought together students, spectators and aspiring rugby stars from all communities. Our aim has always been to celebrate South Africa and we will continue to do so,” he added.

The Board will meet again next week to reassess and monitor the developments at the various universities before any matches resume.

“The well-being and safety of all attending and participating in our events is of utmost importance. We pride ourselves in providing a competition that also actively campaigns against violence through our Pink Shorts campaign and community outreaches by all participating teams. Varsity Cup has been a driving force for good in South Africa over the years,” concludes Bosman.

The four league fixtures to be postponed are UCT v Tuks, CUT v NMMU, UJ v Maties and Pukke v Shimlas.

Agree - empty vessels make the most noise - always.
It's a shame so many get suckered by this though.

I have seen on facebook there were groups calling for readiness and being there in Numbers on Monday since the threat on FB by some dude. This is probably the best course of action at this stage. It would have been one hell of a mess Monday evening ;)

Striking workers protest at UKZN

Durban - Protests erupted at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Westville campus on Thursday morning.

The Varsity Drive into the university’s Westville campus was closed as vehicles were stoned by striking workers, who are demanding to be employed by the university.

A campus security vehicle was reportedly overturned by the striking workers.

hmmm stone my prospective employer with hopes of future employment... genius!!!
Think I'll go stone Unilever's CEO tomorrow, joy!

Look I understand these people just want a permanent job but you can't force someone to employ you. What kind of employment will that be? Rather protest with government to change labour laws to be fairer to you.

Imagine someone broke into your home held your whole family at gunpoint and demanded... employment. Now there's a twist!

I reckon it is giving in to terrorism ;).
Seriously though , I understand the sentiments of the organisers but this is the kind of bullschidt that can only lead to huge kuk if these arseholes continue to get their way through violence and intimidation. Time to lock them the fsk up and make them do some hard time

Continuing the trend of rewarding criminal activity and they will then get all upset when it doesn't stop.

Host the game but get the riot police in to stomp any sign of criminality as soon as it starts.
