The problem is it will not just be the protesters. The white guys have organised a meet and greet also. It would have been very ugly. Best let everyone cool off first. :D

I think the best thing to do would be to let it go ahead and let the two sides clash and after that use the footage to arrest the ringleaders.

The protesters will learn that the only reward is a few bruises and broken bones, the rugby crowd would would probably suffer the same but be able to go home feeling they defended their passion and the instigators learn to play nice with papa in Pollsmoor.

Sometimes these things need to play out or they just fester.

For example I doubt we will see any more protests at the UFS rugby fields again.

You are right. Hate only broods and festers. Leave the White man alone. You are poking a wounded and very dangerous animal with a very short stick.

If you really want to continue you will fail at those games. The so called "White Scum " are excellent tacticians and perfected Guerrilla Warfare long before you existed.

And our corrupt and incompetent government has completely withdrawn from this scenario.

Some statesmanship would perhaps be appropriate.

An outsourced job is not like having a proper employment contract. There is no job security. You get an sms and told to show up at work in a few hours. As you're not an employee, you don't need to be dismissed, you simply aren't told to work and thus don't get paid. You also don't get the benefits that employees of the company get. Labour brokers can and do charge fees from their 'staff' for getting them jobs. Companies also pay labour brokers a fee for having 'staff' on call for them.

At a university, staff benefits can include free educations for your kids, which would be a massive gain.

labour brokers are a different concept from Outsourced in my mind, and this lot are very specifically talking about outsourced jobs.

Outsourced is where you hire a company to do X job for X amount of money... those employees are permanent employees of the outsourced entity.

Huh? Outsourced means you use an external firm to service you. So e.g. If I hire a gardener direct, they work for me. I have the hassle of dealing with employee issues and payroll, etc. if I prefer, I can outsource by hiring a contracting firm (garden service) to provide the service - I don't have to deal with employee issues and I pay for what I get. It might cost more but it's less hassle for me and makes sense to companies who aren't in that particular industry. As for the employees, they have a contract with the company they work for, whether it's for me or a third party, but if it's a third party, their agreement is with their employee, not me, and depends on the firm. There are many cleaning firms and garden services who pay ordinary salaries and have monthly staff.

Five hospitalised after TUT clash

Johannesburg - The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Tuesday said five people were hospitalised after a violent clash between police, students and striking workers at the Pretoria Campus.

Meanwhile, Netcare 911 reported on social media that seven security guards had been injured on a “Gauteng campus”.

#InSourcingMustFall spokesperson Weizmann Hamilton said: “The clash was caused by a private security company that brought in a group of people to attack workers, so workers had no choice but to defend themselves.”

Protesters disrupt conference at Unisa

Pretoria - Protesting outsourced workers and students on Tuesday morning disrupted the University of South Africa's 5th Research and Innovation Week.

Speakers were supposed to discuss the issue of languages in universities on Tuesday.

Instead, workers and students disrupted the proceeding and Unisa had no choice but to cancel the event.

On Monday, student representative council and vice-chancellors discussed the rise and fall of universities in light of the outsourcing and fee protests.

University spokesman Martin Ramotshela said they were still deciding whether to continue with the event on Wednesday.

Addressing students and workers outside the Theo van Wyk Hall, SRC member Ntando Sindane said they demand that the university insource security personnel and cleaners.

“We want them to give workers a top-up of R8 000,” he said.

Workers currently earn about R2 500.

Vice chancellors, student leaders unpack varsity crisis

Pretoria - Not much thought was given to future implications when South Africa declared there would be 11 official languages, Professor Adam Habib said on Monday.

“It took 30 years to construct dedicated universities and millions of rand to elevate Afrikaans and make it a language of instruction at these institutions,” Habib said.

“All we did in 1994 was to declare the official languages and left it at that. How these languages were to be introduced into the system was not discussed, nor planned for.

“It was clear that English and Afrikaans would survive, but the idea of how any of the other official languages would gain due recognition was left to die.”

The Wits University principal was addressing the 5th Unisa Research and Innovation Week alongside Rhodes University vice-chancellor Dr Sizwe Mabizela and student leaders. They all painted a picture of a higher education system that was facing a crisis.

The past week saw unprecedented protests on campuses, with academic activities coming to a halt at the University of Pretoria over a language policy review, and the University of North West being indefinitely shut down following campus violence in Mahikeng.

Mabizela sounded a grim warning on the protests. “It won’t be long before a parent is called to fetch a child from a university in a body bag,” he said.

I'd like to start a book fees must fall campaign, when the course subject is R2k and the book is R2.5k it's a bit insane :(
