That still comes back to it being 400GB for the rolling threshold. The most I've done is 480GB which was during the holidays in December.

Not quite - Using this method, you could do 30gb per day x 9 days, then 19gb x1 day, repeated three times, which is upward of 800gb without being throttled.

Best case, anyway.

That's very interesting.

I'm on the 4Mb premium so between this theory and Fudzy's theory of 400GB, I should be able to avoid being throttled.

Fudzy, your theory doesn't differentiate between premium and standard though, unless I missed it?

I didn't want to have to "Manage' my usage, and so MWEB has lost me as a customer. Done 660gb last month on my new ISP, simply as a test to see if I -CAN-, and I didn't even get a mail.

Bit frustrated that I did not make the top users list, but I slacked off after 15 days, when I was close on 450gb..

So if one buys a 2Mbps account but have a 1Mbps ADSL line you can use your account like a 1Mbps account before the throttling issue happened.

Good question, you would have to have it unbundled though surely?

Well, unbundling is where its at, no hassles when wanting to switch ISPs (and that worth the R50 or whatever), you get a monthly account statment from Telkom anyway for the phone line.

Totally agree, you only pay those school fees once.

Which other ISP's throttle without specifying limits?

Well, I don't know about full on throttling, but Web Africa has a "5 star system" that deals with shaping protocols but with no indication of what limit actually decreases your status.

It used to be simpler with them last year with clear 7/30 day windows and there was a set limit before you were "downgraded". I was cool with knowing I had a limit simply because I knew what it was and what to expect afterward

I just feel that is good users are taking a stand to figure out the limits for ourselves rather than listen to the "dynamically adjusted limit" or "when capacities available" crap.

Sorry about the sight thread derail...

This is a good thread. Your figures are as accurate as can be expected without Mweb confirming them. However I do believe their is a difference between the premium package and standard with regards threshold

Normal account use for me are browsing, downloading updates, downloading games, downloading steam, gaming online, streaming video, emails, etc. Then add the extended family who together do a mix of all things all at the same time and then realise that patterns change as well as volumes in GB/day fly. Now with Mweb that is not possible any more like in the past as it's against the AUP so they have strict use limits depending on accounts ( See adverts). Mwebguy told someone just recently he was not supposed to do gaming on his account!

Yeah. I was sharing your confusion/frustration, not questioning it :)

My on topic question would be as of tomorrow when Telkom start the process of ending 1mbps lines will the 100gb threshold go up?

Good questions. Depends what MWEB does. Will all 1mbps become 2mbps with MWEB, too? Then the "200GB" threshold should apply.

Recent post I saw on their page indicates that their product team is still working out the details of what they will do after the Telkom linespeed upgrades.

If 10mbps drops to the price I'm paying now I will be quite pleased.
