So it's actually just a load as BS as you can do your courses in english as well as your exams. The real issue is getting rid of afrikaans.
 
It makes sense to level it all and use an internationally understood language no?

I have no issues with english being the only medium of instruction, I actually support it. But what they are saying is basically that you have some advantage over me so in spite I'm gonna drag you down to my level of disadvantage. In the greater scheme of things it won't really hurt the dutchmen that much as their english is not that bad. Once this complaint is over it will move on to something else and as per usual you will support this idiocy with your libertarian mumbo jumbo waffle.

Their perspective is different, obviously. They're asking why Afrikaans is still afforded an elevated position in this day & age. Remember it costs the university time and resources to do that.

Nah, that's just Bush-logic at work. "You're either with us or against us."

I try to think beyond polarising and absolutist identity politics. Seems many are incapable of doing that, on both sides of the coin.
 
This is something that needs to be addressed at school level. All kids has the right to equal education in their mother tongue.
At some point the playing field should be leveled?
The frustration is that there in no istitution that caters to any other language but Afrikaans and Zulu.

So instead of burning down a uni why not extend it to whe kids can get lectures in Englis and Xhosa.
Most Afrikaans people ( most keep it there ) helps themselves quiet well in the world with English as a second.
So instead of blaming Afrikaans ask the government where is your Xhosa/English Zulu/English lectures and classes.
We need more space in uni's in any case so why can't this be done?

And don't come with apartheid, at least one such uni could have existed by now? If Nkandla can why not a uni?
 
I laugh at the notion that eliminating Afrikaans becomes a disadvantage. Its actually an advantage.

The global village requires you to communicate in a common language, and I'm sorry, there are some people that can't speak a word of English in the business place, who should be able to.

I think so, why not. As long as it is on par with what Afrikaans people get. They are ( the people that studied ) cab able of doing well in the world with their level of English. Why should Other languages not be given the same opportunity?

I just think it can be done without throwing Afrikaans under the bus.

Go to hell, I'm no fan of bush.

Just look at rhodes must fall, next step is decolonisation where we burn art and deny anybody that is not black (indian, coloured, white & purple) access to dining halls, threatening to kill certain demographics. It's a fscking racist agenda, you can't see the forest for the trees. Next we burn down the library and the the buildings but you will still carry on with your head stuck in the sand.

Agreed....but hardly worth a riot.

I say shoot the students into oblivion with water canons until they either get the message and go back to class or their bodies are too broken to do any more damage. They are at uni for three or four years. What the hell is it to them that some classes are in Afrikaans.

Bored and looking for a cause where there is none.

Really??? Can you speak Mandarin, French, German, Russian, etc?

Where are they going to get lecturers in all the subjects capable of teaching and setting exams? And classrooms, etc.?

Estate agent today recommended someone I know appoint a certain lawyer, reason being the lawyer being fluent in german & the client not so much with english wrt a property deal and he would be in a much better position to get the legalise across to the client.
