UP closes campus after student clashes

Why can't people just not explain themselves?
Was my request so unreasonable.

I'm just trying to understand where these people are from.

Sounds like you don't know what you are speaking about. Most Afrikaans folks can speak English and quite a few "farmers" can speak another language as well.

Shame, did the Afrikaans kindertjie have an awful upbringing where they weren't allowed a decent education? So now that the field is being levelled they feel that they shouldn't have to be taught in another language?

Nice Ninja edit. If those same people can speak another language then why make the big deal about learning in the same language as others?

Things like "they didn't have a choice" smacks of complete ignorance to what happened in this country.

I agree. I do think as a country we have the capacity to have uni's and colleges that teaches in one of the official languages and English.
I think lost of time has been wasted, but if we start now we will not be having this fight in 10 years.

We need more universities anyway. Those should be built for the language demographics?

Do they require English lecturers to lecture in Afrikaans?

You mentioned people that you work with that can't speak English, I asked if they were Afrikaans. I just wanted to know where they are from.

What they are protesting is not always real issues, it's driven by racist agengas & politics.

Example (I'm just pulling names out my ass here for arguments sake) Anton Rupert trust could donate a couple of billion rand tomorrow, build a private afrikaans university affiliated with some international university (that awards the degree so no need for gov sanction) open to all afrikaans people irrespective of colour and I would bet you these very same **** stirrers would be there to burn the place down even though it's private.

Posting on mobile and hit enter by mistake.

When enrolling at a Varsity I made sure that my major subjects were offered in a language I could understand. I did not enrol and then bitch about the language.

Where on Earth did I make any reference to "choices"? Please quote the correct post.
 
I can see most of the contributors are out of touch of whats going in our "model C" schools.
They are forced to take in as many black kids as can be crammed into a class room.
In the meantime the location schools are losing pupils to the white schools.
By a lot btw - note how many location schools have closed down completely.
It is a huge thorn in their skin that the white schools still outperform the guvament schools.
Now the time has come to do the same to the white Afrikaans tutored tertiary institutions.
They regard Afrikaans as the language of the suppressors.
So the ANC sends their rent-a-crowd thugs in.
And the results are clear to see in the Pedi universities like the UoL.
