It's not about the language...
They already get all their classes in English, those who study in English. Afrikaans is there for those who want it. EFF want's it removed completely just to cause shyte.
I left it too late, at my age (just short of 60) my options are very limited, but my daughter is actively looking at going now and I fully support them.
What is sad is that the ANC is not learning the lessons from history. In the 30's the Carnegie report looked at the problem of Afrikaner poor whites. The nutshell conclusion was that there were 3 kind of poor people, those that were disowned after the Boer war and lost everything they had, those that had potential but no opportunities and the last group were poor because the were useless ("sleg") and no matter how much you spend on them, they will always be poor. The recommendation was to focus on the fist 2 groups, and massive job creation efforts was started: Iscor, Eskom, Railways etc, and some welfare for the very poor. The Afrikaner grabbed the opportunities and many of them became very wealthy and a large middle class was created. Those that depended on the government to look after them, are today employed as car guards and stand at the robots with sad placards.
Having said that, what do you say to a bright young white boy with a decent matric pass why no employer is willing to give him a chance?

I also wouldn't mind if you speak Afrikaans to mebut I would mind if you want to tutor me in Afrikaans. I am sure the French would not like to be tutored in a Afrikaans as well.
Then why not seek tutoring in your language? It is like me going to an English based institution and asked to be tutored in Afrikaans or else... I went to an Afrikaans school and got tutored in Afrikaans, but went to an English technical college (only English and my choice of institution) where I was tutored in English and not my home language.
Do you realize that South Africa was founded as a white colony? Should it then remain a white colony? Think, please.
Years ago when I studied IT at Unisa I took my first subject in Afrikaans and got so bloody confused with the strange names for things that I changed to English for the rest of my diploma.

Because is a country with 11 official languages it is not practical and a waste of money of everyone to be tutored in their own mother tongue.

There are students studying Bcom Finance. Meaning next year some of them might be sitting opposite me in a meeting room for an interview. Would you as an employer employ someone like this in your workplace seeing how easy they are manipulated and/or drive an agenda? Do you think these kids are actually hurting their futures with these posts on Twitter and facebook? I sure as hell think so.

Your bright black boy doesn't need to contend with BEE and AA. If he's competing he's competing against other students of his background and colour. The lack of job opportunities again boil down to your support for the wrong party who obviously can't do no wrong... The irony just keeps coming doesn't it?

How does Afrikaans as a language currently at UP exclude you from attending UP? How does removing Afrikaans make a difference to your above post?

The day it comes down to the best candidate is the day the country moves forward. Unfortunately too many people like you will always see otherwise.
Always the victim until the country is burnt to the ground and there's nothing left to be cheated out of.
It is worth noting that any disciplinary infraction against a student who is studying a professional degree (something I doubt most of the protesters are doing mind you) may result in their being denied registration with the professional body of their field; in other words, they can actually ruin their career through misbehaving at university.
The bright white boy also doesn't need to content with a poor education and poverty in general.
Again. Please tell us how you managed it.

Nothing is stopping you if you want to go to Tuks and study in English as the policy currently stands, ziltch nothing. The only thing that might prevent you is intellect, but seeing some of these protesters makes me wonder what degrees they are going.

You probably live on Zuma's planet where all white people are super rich, however on this planet whites are also poor, but at the company I work for your bright black boy will have a chance at a job if he conducts himself well in an interview, my white boy didn't get the invite, because HR won't let it happen.
I am the exception, not the norm, unfortunately.
